Great Camera 2008-05-24
I have camcorders since 1987 and this one is great. I like the DVD recording where I can see what I just recorded direct on my TV, via my DVD. The size is very small, however the buttons are fine. Good quality for the price. For the record: My experience with Canon customer service has been great in the past: Free service on my A95 and A75 digital cameras, even after the warranty expired (black LCD screen).

Dead on arrival 2008-05-22
Of course there are going to be items that do not work. However I have NEVER in 20 years plus of buying new electronic items had one that was dead on arrival.

This unit the disc door never opened. Simply did not open. The video screen kept saying warning the door is open...while it was completely closed. The door NEVER budged. And the flimsy plastic pieces holding the door seemed just like that...cheap plastic. We are going on a once a decade vacation soon and Amazon is out so can not exchange it. They will refund it.

I explained this to Canon and they said sorry all we can do is have you ship it back to us and we may or may not get it back to you in time. And even though it was literally hours old, I had not even owned it a full day they refused to pay for shipping to their facility for a brand new defective product.

Sure sometimes something goes wrong with the electronics but this was a shoody mechanical problem. Can you not even quality control check that the units DVD disc unit opens? Can you not at least have a minimum of customer service?

My first Canon camcorder and my last. If you do order this, make sure you buy it from a place that will let you return it. Product not working happens, but bad customer service from Canon, not caring, and not even having a door open, something easily checked is not acceptable.

GREAT LITTLE CAMCORDER 2008-06-22
NICE ZOOM, GOOD VIDEO, I LIKE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. HAS A CUTE LTTLE REMOTE CONTROL THAT WORKS! REAL EASY TO USE.

Getting a toy not a camcorder 2008-06-15
I read the product description and liked it a lot but when I got it I found that it looked like a toy rathar than being a reliable camcorder. I returned it the first minute I got it as that was not encouraging at all.

Great package for the price 2008-05-27
The steadycam feature works well; it's instinctive to use; the sound is reasonably good; it needs a light; the still camera feature is not good, in comparison with $100 cameras nowadays

Great Zoom - Sharp Focus 2008-05-27
This is an amazing camera. I don't know the picture quality of an HD camcorder, but in comparison this camera is an excellent buy for the price. Perhaps I'll buy an HD in a few years when the price drops.
Only warning about buying from Amazon - be careful with recommended accessories - make sure you purchase mini DVD's and not regular DVD's as I mistakenly did.
I have not taken single frame pictures with it yet and suspect that the 1 MP quality will not be great, but I have an excellent digital camera and do not need the multiple capability. I purchased the camera primarily for wildlife video and think it will do an excellent job.

Easy to Use 2008-05-27
This camcorder is very easy to use and set up. The quality of the video is very good and the optical zoom allows you to capture close-up video without disturbing the subject.

Review: ... "Click! The No Nonsense Guide to Digital Cameras" is misnamed. It covers a lot more than just cameras. In a couple of hundred pages, it includes using a scanner and Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 to rescue faded, damaged family photos, the basic guidelines to good picture taking, how to use Elements 2 to improve your digital photos, and how to print and preserve your pictures for the ages. White, the author of the bestseller "How Computers Work," knows how to pack a lot of helpful, understandable information in a brief no nonsense book.

Review: "This Camera is one of the best in its price range. It takes beautiful clear pictures and can be used right out of the box, but its worth learning all its features. The included memory holds about 20-25 pictures so I upgraded to 128mb. I reccomend getting a 128mb card and the Sony camera case. Not only is this one of the best cameras in its class it includes decent software and rechargeable batteries that are at least a 20$ value.
HIGHLY reccomend over canon, kodak, and fuji. One more thing this camera has CARL Zeiss lens (if you dont know, great lens) all the competetors have generic lens."

From the Back Cover The megapixel hype
The fact is a camera’s megapixel rating is only a measure of how many pixels (photosensitive sites) an image sensor has…. An image sensor is simply one component of an entire system that produces a digital photograph… So resist buying into the megapixel hype when you’re choosing a digital camera. From Chapter 1
