4ghz on stock easy.....
2008-05-05
Pro: with "El cheapo" stock cooler I hit 4ghz easy with the asus P5E-VM HDMI.
I had a Q6600 B3, this is equally fast at stock... and OC...
Cons: In case you didnt know.. this procesors (E8xxx in general) have some serious problem with the temp sensor.... Temp reading is insane... my said 15c and I know for a fact that its not true... my room temp is 35c (I live in nicaragua) si its imposible for a procesor been cooler than 35c... core temp are 50c and 55c.. and thats also wrong... acording to some expert the best program to read the real temp is: Real Temp 2.41
Core temp, everest, speed fan and bios didnt read the real temp of this procesor in my motherboard or any motherboard for that matter....
Fantastic processor for my new system

Wow, such a huge leap forward from my Pentium 4 3.0GHz. I put it in a new Shuttle SG31G2S barebones system with 2GB of RAM. Wow! Highly recommended.
I considered a more expensive Quad Core, but not sure I'd get any additional benefit. I'm more than pleased with my choice.
Great price for such performance.

This processor is really fast ....
I have installed this processor on my EVGA 780i motherboard and for the OS i'm using Vista ultimate 64-bit .. tell ya what!! ... this processor handles the vista like if it was Windows Millenium !! ....
Had a 6.1 rating in the explorer rating system in Vista ultimate 64-bit while it is on stock speed ... not Overclocked what so ever.
I think that this processor is so suitable for building a budgeted gamers PC while getting very high performance ...
I highly recommend this product ...

Bang for the Buck Champ!

This is the best sub 200 chip right now bar none. As the others have mentioned , it does 4 GHZ overclocked easy. Runs very cool . Its an excellent value !!
Excellent processor.

I am obcessed with video. It's the first time in my life I was able to play 4 videos using different codecs at the same time. This processor is so powerful and tiny!
Installing the fan was tricky (I might have broke it). But it's now working properly. Temperature is never over 40C.
Amazon hates to ship to APO, most items sold by Amazon are not shippable to APO. That's why I took the risk and I bought from TigerDirect. It was a trouble free transaction. Thank you TigerDirect.
Best choice for the gamer today

This is the best choice today (May 16th) for a gamer. Good price, great performance, huge overclocking potential.
Have not seen the 8500's so far, but their weird multiplier (x,5) makes me think 8400 is better.
Keep in mind, however, that nVdia 680 mobos do not support them.
If you are a gamer, that's the best choice. If you have money, spend it on multiple video cards instead of a more expensive processor.
