Editorial Review
The Sony DSC-T300 offers excellent performance and an elegant, sophisticated design. It includes Face Detection technology to optimize focus, exposure and color for up to eight faces. The compact body houses 10.1-Megapixel resolution and a beautiful, wide 3.5" touch-screen LCD for easy operation. A Carl Zeiss 5x optical zoom lens give you the power to get even closer to the action, a real benefit for distant landscape views and dramatic portraits. A huge 3.5" widescreen Clear Photo LCD Plus LCD display includes an anti-reflective coating that provides for excellent visibility to help you compose, view, and share photos with superb clarity and color reproduction, even in bright sunlight. With high sensitivity of ISO 3200, you can shoot effectively in low light without flash to preserve the mood, while the Sony Clear RAW Noise Reduction system helps suppress the color noise that can degrade low-light shots. PhotoTV HD compatibility allows the camera to be connected to a PhotoTV HD-capable Sony BRAVIA HDTV via the optional HD output adaptor, for highly detailed, high-definition color images displayed in unprecedented realism and full HD quality in 16:9 High-Resolution Mode. 1/2.3 Super HAD(TM) CCD Shutter Speed - Auto (1/4 - 1/1,000) / Program Auto (1 - 1/1,000) Aperture Range - Auto (F3.5-F10) / Program Auto (F3.5-F10) Movie Modes - MPEG VX Fine with Audio (640x480 at 30fps), MPEG VX Standard with Audio (640x480 at 16.6fps), Presentation Mode (320 x 240 at 8.3fps) Self-Timer - 10 seconds and 2 seconds Scene Modes - Beach, Fireworks, High Speed Shutter, High Sensitivity, Landscape, Snow, Soft Snap, Twilight, Twilight Portrait, and Smile Shutter Flash Modes - Auto, Forced On, Forced Off, and Slow Synch Operating System - Microsoft 2000 Professional, Me, XP Home and Professional, and Vista, Macintosh OS 9.1/9.2/OS X (10.1-10.4)

fantastic ! 2008-06-26
Bought this camera after months of searching. Good thing I didn't pay attention to the professionals that reviewed it. One person said not to pay attention to them, that it was great for everyday use so I bought it on the strength of that. Boy, am I ever happy I did. Thanks, Sony.

Does alot in small package 2008-06-19
Replaces those bulky old video cameras for home movies and takes nice digital photos also. Lots of touch screen buttons and getting where you want to be can be confusing.

Good, but 2008-06-11
This camera had a lot of features that I wanted:

* good size of LCD screen

* cover for lens

* internal zoom - so no mechanical lens in/out

BUT I forgot to check on these things that it DOESN'T have

* Ability to connect to PC via mini-USB (uses a Sony proprietary USB connection)

* Ability to charge the battery inside the camera (uses a separate charger)

* Ability to use a "standard" SAN disk (uses a Sony memory stick)

* A view-finder, so that I don't have to try to use the LCD screen outdoors

It's a good camera, but I probably would not have purchased it if I had done a better job of my research up front.

Sensitivity 2008-06-09
This camera's great but the combination of size and touch screen makes for difficult handling. Maybe it's just my clumsy fingers.

T300 2008-06-07
It seems this is a good cam and it has given a acceptable price. But the transportation cost is high.

I love this camera! 2008-07-24
My T-30 was stolen and I replace it with the T30. Best camera ever.

Great quality, good price 2008-07-21
The camera is awesome, I just wished it came with a memory card. I took it to Vegas the day I got it but didn't know it didn't have a memory card inside.

Great little bundle of features, but with a pinch of salt 2008-07-14
Its an exciting little camera and is definitely an eye grabber with with its 3.5" LCD display. I was initially a bit reluctant to buy this one seeing the reviews on CNet and other sites. Yes, the image quality is not worth $400 and you can get the same images for 100 bucks less but its sporty look and finish is what made me crave for this beauty. The red metallic frame looks very funky. People actually come to you and start chatting about the camera when they see T300 in your hand. This has happened to me more than once. It does not have protruding lens system and can still go upto 5x zoom which is very helpful for some special shots. The little zoom knob on the top corner is very simple to use and makes the zooming experience a lot better. The sliding cover is good but it is not comfortable to grab the camera while taking a shot as it is too thin to maintain a good grip. I had a canon SD1000 and the quality of images is much better with T300. It has a lot of good features like multi-mode face detection and smile shutter (though smile shutter is practically of no use as it is a very limited technology) It is highly portable and ultra compact.

Now the pinch of salt. The images are not very crisp at the corners and higher ISO pics look like they have been painted by a novice. It has a lot of modes to chose from but it gets really bad at night when you want to shoot both the subject and the background. If you use the flash, background gets washed and if you use the night mode, the subject is not very clear. In all other conditions this camera gives good pictures. I have tried some really difficult snaps and this camera has delivered. Also the time taken to save an image (even at the highest image quality) is too small and you can take another pic within 2 seconds. The hyped touch screen display lives upto your expectations. Though its not highly sensitive and there is a learning time associated with this technology, once you get a feel of it, its really very simple and a fun to use. I really hated these buttons and knobs on previous cameras but the menus in T300 are simple to use. Yes you have to confirm after each n every adjustment you make using the touch screen. This may be irritating at times but unavoidable. Also it lacks a view-finder and i cant use my standard SD card with this as it uses a patented memory stick duo technology. This further adds to the cost of purchasing T300.

Overall, if you want a designer camera, be the center of attention in a party and don't mind spending 400 bucks for making the experience of taking quality pictures fun, T300 is definitely for you. However don't expect the image quality to be at par with SLR's and if you are really into photography this would look like a child's toy.

Excellent Camera 2008-07-07
This is the best sony camera I have ever had. Picture quality is awesome. Easy touch screen controls to work with. I was thinking of buying SLR but chose to buy this one. Of course cannot compare with SLR but still excellent pics.

Best small point and shoot I can Imagine 2008-06-30
I would guess that I would have to test a large number of cameras to determine which one I thought was best but I beleive upon minimal comparisons that this camera would have to be at least one of the best in its class. I usually use an SLR camera but I bought this one for my wife because of is large optical zoom range and the large range of options that can be employed in its use. She is used to point and shoot cameras but she is really getting more excited about photography by occasionally changing modes or settings. The camera also has an "easy" mode for point and shooters. The small auto focus Zeiss lens with the large zoom range focusing onto a 10 GB sensor makes pictures that are very large and clear, so it would pay to purchase a larger memory card. My wife usually shoots at a 5GB size because it is more than sufficient for 8x10's. If she knows she is shooting something special that she will print in a larger size. she will move up to the full 10MB size. A 5GB setting will usually produce picture of rough 2.5MB while 10GB will produce pictrures of roughly 5MB. Other than being a little more expensive than some of its competitors, I can find no real faults with the camera. I recommend it highly.

PS A nice puzzle is to figure out how the lens opens without reading the instructions first.

In a couple of hundred pages, it includes using a scanner and Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 to rescue faded, damaged family photos, the basic guidelines to good picture taking, how to use Elements 2 to improve your digital photos, and how to print and preserve your pictures for the ages. Review: "This Camera is one of the best in its price range. It takes beautiful clear pictures and can be used right out of the box, but its worth learning all its features. The included memory holds about 20-25 pictures so I upgraded to 128mb. I reccomend getting a 128mb card and the Sony camera case. Not only is this one of the best cameras in its class it includes decent software and rechargeable batteries that are at least a 20$ value.
HIGHLY reccomend over canon, kodak, and fuji. One more thing this camera has CARL Zeiss lens (if you dont know, great lens) all the competetors have generic lens."
