Fujifilm Finepix S1000fd 2008-07-08
Fantastic, easy to use camera....it's just as simple as a point & shoot and takes fantastic pic's. This is our second Fuji in the past 3 years and love the cameras. Fits well in your hand and is small and easy to carry around, yet it takes "BIG" pictures with lots of depth.

NO AUTO POP UP FLASH RU kidd'n me! 2008-07-08
Overall everything works fine but I cannot help but feel that Fuji knowingly hides the fact that the flash has to be popped up manually. This especially annoying since the 700 had a true automatic pop up flash. SHAME on FUJI. This will be my last Fuji camera. There are to many better thought out makes and models available.

Just what I wanted!! 2008-07-07
I ordered the Fujifilm s1000fd as it has the features I most desired on a camera at a price I thought was reasonable. I have spend the last month taking photgraphs of everything so I can get use to the capabilities of the camera. So far, the only complaints I have are my own abilities.

Awesome Camera 2008-07-01
This camera is an awesome camera. I have been able to get closer then what it says I can and still stay in focus. I could have paid $100.00 more for the Cannon camera which had more buttons and you have to use both hands to work it but I went with this camera which I can work everything with one hand. I recommend that if your just learning or pro to go with this camera.

GREAT CAMERA 2008-07-01
I love this camera! Does a great job. Zoom works well and gets very detailed pictures. There is a lot to learn so plan on taking some time and reading the manual but it is well worth it. The pictures are quite big so make sure and have space to save them. I am glad I got the 2 gb memory card.

Fujifilm FinePix s1000fd 2008-07-24
I am very happy with this camera. I was wanting a camera that would do a little more than just point and shoot and this camera does it. A few features that I'm not so happy are that there is no image stablization with the continous shooting so images can turn out pretty blurry if you're not holding very still. Using the camera with a tripod would probably solve this problem. Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase.

black pictures almost half the time 2008-07-21
Check out the review from 5/25/08 by Challenging Designs and the one from R. Yomes from 7/10/08. Something is not right with this camera. I am putting my comment here to share my experience.

I've been experimenting with this camera for the last month and a half. I sometimes don't get focused shots because of the delay and miss out on pictures of my children. I used it at the marina on an overcast day and on AUTO setting and my pictures were far too dark and some were black. Today I placed fresh batteries in it (just in case) and I used it while out golfing at beautiful Kanehohe Bay in the loveliest of conditions...also on AUTO. Half the pictures turned out normal, the other half, all along the ocean in gorgeous conditions, were too dark (black, practically) just as the ones from the overcast day at the marina. My visiting uncle was using his new Panasonic Lumix (I will post it here when I find out which one he has) on AUTO, comparable but about a hundred dollars more expensive, and it had NO trouble on the overcast day at the marina. We even shot several of the same subjects! ALL his exposures were perfect with his Lumix! None of mine were successful. I could not understand what was happening as I held my camera side by side with his to compare. Then I read the review by Challenging Design from 5/25. I have found that my indoor pictures are grainy with the flash and brassy without.

My husband and I have been happy with our six-year-old Finepix F601Zoom which, much to our surprise, takes better pictures than this S1000fd. The old F601Z has a delay, another reason, besides more pixels and more zoom, that we attempted to upgrade. My Finepix S1000 will be going back to the store.

As of today, I find it interesting that a third person (R. Yomes, 7/10/08) has had black pictures, so that's three of us who are disappointed in this camera. I was wondering what I was doing wrong on "Auto" mode. I was glad to have had the chance to compare it with another camera so that I could be sure it was not overcast conditions at the marina the first day. There was no excuse for the failed pictures on the sunny day at the golf course. After being so pleased with our old Fuji camera, the new one is a huge disappointment. And yes, I returned it to where it was purchased (I had 45 days to try it...I only used it for about a week before it was malfunctioning). Not quite sure I want the Panasonic, either, as the pictures have great contrast between light and dark without as much depth of color between as I am accustomed to with a Fuji camera.

And, like another reviewer, I am annoyed at how easily the lens cap falls off. The "missing" lens cap was my biggest complaint repeatedly my first day using it until I started experiencing the black pictures.

I think there's a trend here....three of us have found it takes almost black pictures.

I love it! 2008-07-16
my camera arrived sooner than estimated whic is awesome. I bought this camera to take pictures of te animals at the animal shelter. It works great. I am still figuring out all the options, but all the pictures I have taken (198)have come out great. The owners manual is very descriptive. Although a little intimidating for me since I don't know too much about cameras, but I am a fast learner. I would highly reccomend this to anyone looking for a digital camera.

Excelent purchase...!!!!! 2008-07-15
It's all I thought it would be. I made a lot of research before making my final decision, and it's definitely the best choice for the price. I've own a couple a Canon of the A series and were very good, but I believe the Fujifilm has better features for the price.

AWFUL!!!!!!! 2008-07-10
When we first started using this camera, it was great. Pictures were nice, video was great, and we were happy with it. Now after a couple of months and a move to a new area, I would love to drop kick it off a cliff. The pictures are constantly not coming out. The photos either are just a black screen, super dark, or way too bright. When taking photos we must take about 20 of the same thing to get one halfway decent, color close to what it should be. AVOID this camera!! Get a cannon or a kodak, I wish I had.

Review: "This Camera is one of the best in its price range. It takes beautiful clear pictures and can be used right out of the box, but its worth learning all its features. The included memory holds about 20-25 pictures so I upgraded to 128mb. I reccomend getting a 128mb card and the Sony camera case. Not only is this one of the best cameras in its class it includes decent software and rechargeable batteries that are at least a 20$ value.
HIGHLY reccomend over canon, kodak, and fuji. One more thing this camera has CARL Zeiss lens (if you dont know, great lens) all the competetors have generic lens."

The fact is a camera’s megapixel rating is only a measure of how many pixels (photosensitive sites) an image sensor has…. An image sensor is simply one component of an entire system that produces a digital photograph… So resist buying into the megapixel hype when you’re choosing a digital camera. From Chapter 1
