Editorial Review
On the last page of the Caldecott-winning book Jumanji, young Danny Budwing is seen running after his brother, Walter, with a game tucked under his arm. Now after twenty years, Chris Van Allsburg is ready to reveal what happens when Danny and Walter roll the dice. This time the name of the game is Zathura and the battling Budwing boys are in for the ride of their lives.
Zathura unleashes intergalactic challenges that require even the quarreling Budwing brothers to work as a team.

Zathura hit bestseller lists when it was first published in 2002 and it's sure to visit them again this fall, along with an exciting selection of six movie tie-in editions when Zathura blasts into movie theatres nationwide!

Zathura 2007-03-21
I read Zathura by Chris Van Allsburg. I would recommend this book because it is exciting. In the book I read that the two boys and their house go into outer space and something good happens at the end. But you will have to read it to find out what happens. This helped convince me that it was a good book.

Zathura 2007-03-21
I read Zathura by Chris Van Allsburg. I liked and would recommend this book because I thought it was very cool. In the book I read about the alien rbot coming off the spaceship and into the house. This helped convince me that it was a good book.

Zathura the great adventure! 2006-10-18
Zathura was the greatest book of my life! I made a connection with this book. There is a robot and I used to have a robot toy. It would be so cool to have a robot. We have been studying about the solar system and the big brother loses his gravity. Question - what does Master Yoda know about science? Read this book and let me know what you thought! May the force be with you. Sebastian

NOT HIS BEST BUT GOOD SOLID WORK 2006-05-26
I am a big fan of Allsburg's art work. His capturing of shades is almost magical. This work is no exception. I was not as thrilled with the narrative of this one as I was with much of his other work though. This author obviously has a great imagination and great story telling abilities...he probably could have put them to better use here and been a bit more original. That being said, this is still a very good book and certainly worth owning. Recommend it highly.

If youv'e read Jumanji, then you have read this book 2006-05-09
Being the action packed sequel to Jumanji, Zarthura follows the same feel as its predecessor, with even a title mention to the board game Jumanji mentioned in the book.
Two feuding, young brothers, Walter and Danny, encounter a board game, Jumanji in the woods as they are wrestling around. Not until they get home do they realize there is another more "adult" game tucked inside. Danny, the younger of the two, unknowingly starts a chain of space travel events by rolling the dice. Eventually, normalcy is restored when Walter rolls the dice and is sucked through a black hole back in time before the game is found. A distinct theme of slowing down and appreciating your family is found. Allsburg uses his distinct artwork once again in this book.
I was disappointed with the book. While it was a good book, and a cool idea, I felt like it was too much like Jumanji to really enjoy. The artwork had the same feel. The story line was similar. It was just too much alike for me to like.

A great, imaginative book for kids! 2008-03-29
My 5 year old daughter loves this book, and she enjoys hearing the story over and over. Chris Van Allsburg is an awesome children's book author, some of his other books include, Two Bad Ants, and The Witches' Broom.
This is a great buy, and for the price was a hardbound book with a protective sleeve cover.

Better than Jumanji 2008-03-01
This is a sequel to Jumanji. My 8 year old really enjoyed it. I think he actually liked it better than Jumanji. This time the game takes them to outer space. While it is a little strange and scary in parts the pictures and plot are wonderful. Recommended for ages 4-8 years.

Zathura is great- read it after Jumanji 2007-12-12
Jumanji and Zathura are exciting books. Jumanji and Zathura go go together well. They are both exciting. In Jumanji a boy and a girl find a game and play. When they are done they put it back where they found it. Then two boys take the game. They think Jumanji looks boring, but tucked inside the Jumanji box they find Zathura. Then there is a lot of action. These two books are awesome! I highly recommend them to kids of all ages. -SB

Zathura and Jumanj are Great Books! 2007-12-06
"Zathura" is a great book for some people, but a scary book for others. How can a game come true? If you believe in magic, the book will seem more real. If you read this book after "Jumanji", it will be even better. I would give ten stars if I could! Chris Van Allsburg creates some great books! If I had a chance to meet him I wouldn't miss the chance! -Nathalia, Grade 4, Nantucket, MA

Zathura 2007-03-21
I read Zathura by Chris Van Allsburg, I liked and would recommend this book because one of the kids said, "I have a robot" and I like robots. In the book I read how the boys saw a spaceship through the window. The robot came into the house and tried to get the aliens. This helped convince me that it was a good book.
