Great Christmas gift
2009-01-08
It looked like the perfect price/performance win, and something my wife would be able to use to share small video, family pics, etc. with her friends. Having both MP3 and FM radio was nice, and 4 GB is a reasonable amount of room- not too small, not excessive (with added expense).
Was it a good gift? YES, my wife has enjoyed it every day since! :)

First of all let me say that this product is Amazing. I bought it for my girl friend and since she's not that into technology i had the pleasure of teaching her how to use it, so that means i had the please of turning it on first. This is where all the amazement started. The screen provided a crisp display of the Zen logo. Navigation around the menu is quite very easy and user friendly. Sound quality it at the top among the amazing picture quality of videos and photos. The only downfall to this item is that it didn't come with a wall charger, you have to plug it into the usb cord that's provided and then into the pc. Other than that I have no regrets in buying this. It's neat and just fits right into ur hand, my girl LOVES it even more than i do...WONDERFULL GIFT......

I got this for my brother and he can't stop thanking me. He says it is awesome and helps his day at work fly by.

The Creative Zen is a fantastic little gadget. I bought two for my kids for Christmas and they can't put them down. The 4 gb holds plenty of music and the graphics are great. It hold over 30 hours of media and their website is easy to use. When they arrived I took them both out of the package to have them charged, download some of their favorite music and have them ready to go. I had so much fun with the Zen, I was disappointed I did not get myself one. Definately a great buy, well worth the money. I am glad I made this purchase instead of spending a fortune on the iPod. I highly recommend this product.

DO NOT BUY

3 month warranty... Dead after 4 months. Do not buy this product. One day it froze up when trying to copy songs to it. Had no other option but to disconnect it from the computer. It never started again or took a charge. When it worked it was great, but obviously the quality of this product is complete crap. There's a reason you're finding it on sale.
Great little player!

Santa brought a Red (available at Walmart.com) Creative Zen 4G, for our 7 year old for Christmas. She LOVES it and I have to say it's pretty awesome. She has her own music on there (only a few of our songs from Itunes transferred)but all of her music off cd's can be played on it and we can purchase music off Walmart or Amazon as well. Also, we downloaded an Alvin and the Chipmunks music video for free from Amazon Unbox (really easy to do) and then we also put a couple movies we had on DVD on it, although you need some other software to do so. The picture is clear and the sound is great. It's very sturdy and she LOVES it. The only thing that would have made it better is if you could play a few little games on it. There isn't solitaire or anything and you can't play any games whatsoever on it, but overall this is a GREAT product, especially for a 7 year old!
no real SD support

This is a good device. Very small and lightweight, nice interface, great battery life.
That said, if your intention is to use the SD slot to give it a larger effective capacity, you might want to rethink that. The capability exists, but it's hacked on in the clumsiest manner possible. Media on an SD card can't be searched by artist, album, genre, etc. the way media stored natively is. Neither can that media be incorporated into playlists. It's just a collection of files that can be accessed directly.
Sleek, light, thin, but...

I wanted to give this a 5/5 stars so bad, and I almost did. But a few things stopped me.
Pros:
Black finish is very slick, but, just like my old Zen, I've heard they scratch very easily. I ordered the silicone case with the wire management.
Great screen. Watching videos and looking at pictures is just as good as looking at them or watching them on your computer. I'm sure it scratches easily as well.
Small. Could be a bad thing for some. Much smaller compared to my old Zen Vision: M.
Syncs right up with Windows Media Player11. Works with Macs too I think...
SD card slot. I don't use it, but it's there.
8 EQ presets, or you can set it yourself.
Cons:
No "Hold" switch. 'Might seem worthless to some, but good if you like to work with it outside and it's annoying as heck to have buttons getting inadvertently pressed. Plus, the hold switch on the old Zen turned off the screen to preserve battery power.
No video out, if you want to watch on the big screen
USB cable is 4 inches long! Rediculous!
So far, it has worked as it should, but it's only been a few days. It did freeze up once while I was syncing. If anything happens, I'll update...
