great little mp3 player

This is my first mp3 player and i'm very satisfied with it. It has great sound and battery life. It holds lots of songs too. I'm considering getting a second one to put audiobooks on. The only problems i have with it is the clip is detatchable, and comes off at the most inopportune moments, and i had to buy another set of earbuds because the ones that came w/ it hurt my ears, but overall a great buy.
Great iPod Shuffle Alternative and Awesome DAP!

I'm a survivor of two RCA Lyra Micro Jukeboxes. They both were good for their time (less than a year), but it was time to move on. I've always admired the SanDisk Sansa Clip from afar, like a pretty girl I was too shy to talk to.
However, I found an incredible deal at Buy.com which allowed me, through Google Checkout, ten dollars off the price. I ended paying only $61 for my 4GB Clip. After dealing with the ineptitude of UPS, I got my silver beauty after eight days of desparate waiting and tooth-gnashing.
The Clip is an incredible digital audio player, with amazing sound for its tiny size. After perusing the official SanDisk forums, I discovered that the Clip catalogues music (in my case, mp3s) by ID tags, I used the fine freeware program MP3Tag to re-tag all of my music files. After getting my Clip, I dragged and dropped on to the player, and I don't even use playlists. I just use the "Album" and "Artist" categories to play my mp3s.
I would recommend getting other headphones, as the included earbuds aren't all that great. I'm using Sony Psyc Stereo clip-on headphones. I'm carrying the Clip and my headphones in a brand new Case Logic digital camera case I got from Wal-Mart.
I'd also recommend a silicone case to protect the Clip not just from scratches and dings, but from smudges, smears, and fingerprints. I got one from eforcity on eBay.
All in all, the 4GB Clip is an awesome DAP and a great alternative to the iPod shuffle and most of the other more expensive mp3 players out there.
Best bang for your buck! 2008-07-04
I am so happy with this cute little mp3 player! I didn't like the idea of paying more money for a certain brand, so I searched around and found this little Sansa clip. After reading the reviews on Amazon and other tech sites(check out the Sansa Clip on youtube) I was convinced so I got the 4GB silver Clip. The sound quality is absolutely amazing and it is so easy to use!
My father-in-law got a Shuffle a few weeks before I got my clip and he's still struggling with how to load songs onto it, whereas I simply drag and drop the songs I want onto the little Sansa icon. It comes with a free 30 day trial of Rhapsody, which I am using, but you don't even need it. Simply use whatever media program you already have on your computer. And unlike the Shuffle, I have a screen on mine so that I can change to a different artist or playlist if I want to, or change the settings.
One things I learned the hard way is that the clip will only charge while it's on, so I got concerned that it wasn't holding a charge. Just make sure it's on while you're charging it. You might also want to look into getting the protective cover/charger bundle. As soon as I got the cover on mine I dropped it, but there was no damage at all. On the other hand, if you have a charger for a Motorola Razor it will work with the Sansa Clip. And if earbuds hurt your ears, like they do mine, you might want to invest in good pair of earplugs. I got the JVC Air Cushions and they are amazing!
All in all I would highly recommend this Sansa Clip to anyone who just wants to have a good mp3 player but doesn't want to spend a whole lot of money to get one. And if you're not too tech-savy, no problem with this little thing. The screen is great, the AM-FM tuner is great, the sound quality is phenomenal, and the price is just right.
Great for running 2008-07-03
After all this time, I've finally hopped on the MP3 player bandwagon. Here were my criteria for this purchase:
-Drag and drop file transfer. I didn't want to be tied to any proprietary program, particularly one cluttered with DRM nonsense. Check. The supplied USB cable is pretty short, so I use the one that came with my camera. Someone said the cable is proprietary. It's obviously not.
-Format compatibility, especially MP3 and WMA. Check.
-Compatible with running. Check. The Sansa Clip is small and extremely light. And the nifty clip obviates the need for an armband or sewn-in pocket. Also, battery life is well up to long runs. As for durability, the player seems sturdy enough overall, but I bought a silicone cover as insurance against the inevitable moisture problem. So far so good.
-At least 4 GB capacity. Check. I'm glad this version came out because I really like the convenience of loading my whole song collection and forgetting about it.
-Good sound quality. Sort of. Most reviewers rave about the sound quality. I don't think I qualify as an audiophile, but I find my music lacks the detail I really enjoy hearing. The bass is a bit muddy, and the highs are bit weak. Customizing the EQ helps some, as does using better headphones or speakers, but not as much as I would have liked. I will add that I have no experience with other MP3 players, so perhaps this middling audio is par for the course.
-Headphones? Related to the above paragraph, people often say you should replace the stock headphones right away. Maybe that's true for the more substantial players, but I don't think this unit's processor is up to the task of producing excellent sound through any device. I've experimented with a pair of decent Sennheiser headphones and my desktop Creative Gigaworks speakers (which are surprisingly good) to little avail. That said, I might buy a pair of inexpensive sport-oriented earbuds to address the occasional slippage I experience.
-A display, any display. Check. I disqualified the iPod Shuffle from the get-go because of iTunes, but the lack of a display certainly would have done it, too. The Clip's screen is basic and easy to read in all conditions except bright sunlight.
-Good control interface. Apple does this one better, but the Clip's works quite well all the same. The on/off slider could be a little easier to use, although I do like the lock feature.
-Stability. Pretty good. The player locked up once and came back to life after a simple reset. I updated the bios (or whatever it's called), and it hasn't caused any trouble since. On that note, the update was extremely smooth. Kudos for that.
I'm pretty happy overall. I'd buy the Sansa Clip again for running and piddling around the house. For occasions when really good audio is more important, like flying, I'd invest in a more robust unit.

This is a nice product for the money. Pretty sturdy and really small. This is the second one that I have bought for our family. I don't have any complaints - yet!
A MUST HAVE 2008-07-14
After reading other positive reviews I decided to buy. Everything you've read is true. This thing sounds amazing. It is hands down the best sounding MP3 player I've owned (Archos, IPOD, Mobiblu, & Zune). I listen to it through a pair of Shure SE530's. While it may seem crazy to drive $500 headphones with an $80 player, let me tell you it is justified. Buy one you'll love it.
Very good deal & features 2008-07-14
I love this little player, it fits just the right amount of music for me, the size and light weight is great. I've got around 600 songs on here. I did have one problem with the disk space not returning to full after I deleted most of my songs, so I had to use the Sansa website forum and format the player. Also, the buttons stick and do not work from time to time, but the problem goes away quickly... feels like a software problem, not a hardware problem.
Very nice and great sound 2008-07-11
I have never had an mp3 type player. I have never tried one. I do use computers and pro digital cameras. Therefore I do understand menus that are good or not. The menus are intuitive and are quite simple. This is good. The sound is great. It charges somewhat slow via usb. This may be normal for the mp3 of any type. The screen cannot be seen whatsoever in sunlight. Not a bit. Huge negative. The earphones are okay. This was [...] dollars at [...] . They have this thru Aug at this price. I do not know if 4 gb is good. I would prefer much more. (above [...] are 59 and c- o- s t co)
Worked Well for Three Weeks

The Sansa Clip has a long list of nice features for a nice price. The integrated radio receiver and voice recorder are definite bonuses, and the capacity is high for the price. As far as functionality it is standard or a bit above in terms of user-friendliness. Since the buttons are tactile instead of "touch" type, the device is still very usable--including volume control--if you are wearing thin gloves (such as for spring/fall biking or running).
Now the negatives. It has a cheap feel to it, particularly the power/hold switch and volume rocker button. The menu system takes some getting used to. The screen is extremely hard to read in sunlight and the lettering can be too small to read even in darkness if the user is moving at all.
As an added minus (the biggest by far), my Sansa Clip stopped working after three weeks. Unplug it from the computer and it becomes entirely unresponsive. No amount of cajoling or number of attempts to update the firmware have been able to bring it back to life. Thus, I'm facing the unpleasantness of long runs in silence while I exercise my warranty.
Overall I would say the unit is quite worth the price if it stays alive.
Awesome 2008-07-10
This is a great bargain! I thought that the Zune 2 has the best sound quality, but the Clip matches it regardless of headphones used - amazing! This player sounds far and away better than the Ipod Shuffle and Zen Stone (I checked). Highly recommended!
