Retired
2008-07-12
Limited experience so far as I just received it a short time ago. It's not like a tool you use every day.
It was shipped in a secure package, arrived in good condition. After reading the directions it started well has very good power. I'm thinking changing cutter line will be a challenge( 2 compartments for line ) but that's why retirement is fun every day is a challenge.
It's O.K.

I bought this string trimmer for use around the house. I am having trouble with the line staying in each hole. It seems that the string ends want to get into the same slot. I'm going to buy another line holder. Hopefully that will fix it. It does have plenty of power. Line slows down really fast after you let go of the trigger. Overall A Good Buy!
Not happy with this item at all

Received this trimmer, unpackaged the trimmer and assembled all parts. When I opened the gas tank, noticed a very strong odor of gasoline (odd, since Amazon will not allow you to ship back items that have had gasoline in them, but yet ship them to you). Unit was pretty beat up (more than I thought would be acceptable), wear on gas tank and other areas, but understandable since unit is sold as reconditioned. Immediately tested it with proper fuel to oil ratio. Seemed to work great, but I couldn't be more wrong. After about 1 hour went back to use the trimmer, noticed fuel/oil leaking from carb assembly. Unit had trouble starting this time, but eventually got going. Positioned the unit differently overnight. Next morning noticed a very large puddle of fuel/oil (about 1/4 tank). Unit will no longer start. Contacted Ryobi tech support, they acknowledged that there was a problem with the trimmer, and recommended that I return this item to seller (amazon). Contacted Amazon, and they informed they will not accept a return. I requested/recommended that they contact Ryobi regarding there quality control of these units, since many others seem to have similar problems. I will be taking this trimmer to a service center, after 0 days of use. I am very dissatisfied with this product and would not recommend it to anyone.
maybe mine was defective?

Ever since I received this item, I had problems with it. I should have immediately sent it back, but I thought it might take some breaking in. When I first had it, I could never run at full throttle, as it would immediately die. I learned that by giving it just the right amount of throttle I could get it to run without dying.
However, after a month or two of using it in this manner, it will no longer run. As soon as it starts up, it dies within 5-10 seconds. I did nothing wrong, have given it the proper amount of oil to gas mix.
What does Non-CARB compliant mean? I live in California, and never noticed the description that says "Not for sale in California" - shouldn't Amazon have not sold this to me if it's not for sale in California?
I have yet to contact Ryobi customer care - my fault, as I have always put it off because I am too busy during the week - I may be out of luck (if they won't repair it or honor the warranty - I won't be buying Ryobi again).
reconditioned ryobi 30cc string trimmer
2008-07-03
product came with the wrong string spool and it took three calls to ryobi , and i got a part that works but is still not the right string head.
also the trimmer vibrates your hands after just a few minutes, plus you can buy a new one at homedepot for 119.99 with a (2) year warrenty.
it cuts good but ,i would not buy reconditioned again.
string trimmer review

This unit works as described. Lots of power and starts easily. Well worth the price, especially since its reconditioned.
Awesome

This is the best trimmer I've ever used. Beefy motor, a little heavy, but balanced well. Special shaped deflector is ingenious. Barely got any clippings on me. I'm used to a curved shaft trimmer, got tired of being so close to cutting path and being COVERED in clippings. Trimmer head doesn't rotate while idleing. Trigger and trigger release buttons are placed well. Out of the box started on fourth pull. Turned motor off for a few minutes, fired up on first pull. Good reconditioned buy for $90 + free shipping! I've only used trimmer once and had to rush to give this review. I can tell I'm going to like this trimmer.
String will not work

I have a problem with my trimmer -- it will run OK -- but the string head is defective -- the string wraps around the spindal. I called Ryobi - they gave me a suggestion - tried that - same result. Have tried to find the seller -- it says it has a one year warranty- but, no place to make this happen -- all I need is to have this head replaced.
Works like new

I bought the refurb until after a friend had good luck with his. My trimmer is one model year newer then his and there is one minor cosmetic difference between the ours. Overall it works like a champ... I love it.
Its works great, I had no prob with this grass trimmer!

this trimmer worked right off bat! When I finished assembling the Ryobi grass tremor Its was easy and sufficient to cut the weeds by the fence, around the house, and rose bushes,. I couldn't ask for anything better,, hope you have a great time with it as I have!
