It's getting better... 2008-08-30
...but will it be this way for long? Cause even if the season's one of the best by far and is more mature, how long will it stand?
I mean, besides that, some characters or storylines are still too cliched or just plain (Dan,please get rid of him! and Leyton/Bruckas,enough is enough!).Plus the really over the top cliched effects (the slow motions with the heartbreaking music on the background,please!...)and the scene where everybody sings Mia's song on ep.9 (it's nice and all, plus they all seem to sing well, but what did it add to the storyline itself?...).
We have the newcomers:
- Quentin:even more annoying than Nathan, you only want to slap his face even if when he's supposed to be one of the good guys.
- Kevin Federline:OMG,can he be more useless and annoying?!...
- And Mia:who is supposed to be Tree Hill's American Idol, but can she actually knows how to sing without her annoying vibes and stuff?...(I bought her CD,Kate Vogeole's,and I'm sorry to say that but there are more talented singers out there).Plus, her make up's awfall on the early eps.
The only good surprises are Jamie (so cute and talented),Millicent (a perfect match for Mouth),Lindsey (the perfect girlfriend for Lucas, but maybe too perfect...),Victoria (Daphne Zuniga was made for this part and we always expect for her to be nice at some point, but no...) and the hot nanny (Torrey's most convincing performance).
Other low points:
- Some flashbacks are really important for the storyline and others aren't.
- At 22 you don't get to have done so many things in your life. The should have been on their mid/late 20's for it to be realistic.
All in all it's a really good season beside it flaws, which are numerous but you watch it anyway without missing a little bit of it.
One complain about the DVDs,what happened to "tear us apart" by INXS? how come it's "ride" by Cary Brothers we hear instead of this song? is it still a cost of rights problem or just a forgetting?...

I love One tree hill 2008-08-05
Basically you are rating the season and I am not saying this was the best OTH season but I would say top 2.

Great Season 2008-08-04
Season 5 of OTH ended up a lot better than I thought it would be. When I first heard that they were fast forwarding 4 years, I thought that it was a risk and something that no other show has done before. It worked!!! With so many shows featuring the college years, it was nice to see these characters grow older, and experience life when it really begins. Although most weren't any wiser, it was nice to see what they had done with their lives, and where they are still yet wanting to go. If you are a OTH fan, this season won't disappoint you.

Guilty pleasure. 2008-07-30
I was never a fan of One Tree Hill until I started watching season five. The first four seasons were pretty immature and inconsistent but I actually enjoyed every episode from this 4 years in the future season. Instead of making the gang all go to the same College, the writers decided to jumpstart the teens 4 years after they graduated high school and see what happened to their characters in bewtween. Some flashblacks are used to fill in the gaps but mostly the show stays true to the present time. Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton probably have the strongest and complicated characters and the cliff-hanger was definitely worth watching the whole season, I highly recommend purchasing this almost flawless season, enjoy!

one tree hill fan 2008-07-21
haven't seen every episode , can't wait for the dvd's and season six . this show is one of the best on tv.

The Great Leap Forward 2008-07-13
I have been an avid viewer of "One Tree Hill" since the very first episode. I started watching the show as a replacement to the great "Dawson's Creek" (which ended several months prior to the release of Tree Hill), but I wasn't hooked for almost the entire first season. But then in the second season the writing got sharper (and franky more "out there,") the cast gelled together, and the rest is more or less television history. But to be perfectly honest this show should not have been the hit that it has become. But there is just something about watching these 6 teenagers live out the lives of adult, while the amazing dialogue that captures people and refuses to let go.

As a DVD reviewer once said: "High School Dramas are not made for high schoolers, they are made for the people that didn't have the high school experience they wanted." And "One Tree Hill" is the epoch of this discussion. And this is what makes the fifth season so special. After focusing on the groups High School years from seasons 1 thru 4, Season 5 fast-forwards the action 5 years, with all the kids living their own lives, much seperated (and grown up) from their 18-year-old alter-egos.

Whereas many believe the show would have out-right failed had season 5 progressed into the groups various freshman year of college experiences, it instead shines. The cast is allowed to play their own ages, and the viewers are able to see what happens when the real world comes into play. Every character has learned the harsh lessons that come with college and finally moving away from your parents/home town. The characters have finally learned how life can be without a security blanket. But alas I don't want to give away too much.

The start of season 5 finds Brooks as a very famous and wealthy fashion designer, Peyton as a struggeling record assistant, Lucas as a writer turned basketball coach, Haley starting her first year of Teaching English, and Nathan realing from a crippeling accident. But as fate (and the television producing gods) would have it, within three episodes the entire cast is back in Tree Hill for various reasons, and the series begins to progress from there.

The fifth season DVD include all 18 episodes from the strike-shortened season that aired from January until June 2008 (including the 100th Episode), with Unaired Scenes, Three Featurettes (one focusing on the 4 year jump, another on the 100th episode, and an other on the music), two episode commentaries (the season premier & 100th Episode), a gag reel, as well as a digital copy of each episode to watch on your computer/IPod. The episodes are spread across 5 discs and are presented in 1.78:1 Widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound.

Disappointing!!! 2008-07-05
I was very excited to see them take One Tree Hill into the future, especially becuase the characters was now close to my age. I was extremely dissapointed becuase the storylines were the same as seasons 1-4. The writers only focused on Lucas & Peyton's screwed up relationship and not enough on the other 3 Main characters. They also focused to much on the new and secondary characters. It was either a Hit of Miss and it was definitely a miss. But at least they left a great cliff hanger with Lucas, Brooke, Peyton, and Lindsey.

Great Season & hopefully more good seasons to come!!! 2008-06-30
It's horrible that we have to wait all summer to find out what happens with these cliffhangers. I understand that they are necessary because they keep people wanting more but I expected the show to be ending last season. So I thought we would have some answers to the Peyton/Lucas/Lindsey love triangle. In fact I thought we'd have a conclusion. I was shocked but also thrilled to see that the show wouldn't be ending but now we have to wait for answers. Anyways, regarding this show I loved it since the very beginning. I think I like it even more know because I don't feel as guilty for watching because the show is no longer about teenagers it's about characters around my own age.

A solid season, but with missed opportunities 2008-06-23
As an avid One Tree Hill viewer, who has loved this show since the Pilot episode I enjoyed Season 5 but felt the writers could have done so much more.

Skipping ahead four years gave the writers a wonderful opportunity for fresh ideas & to show how the characters have developed. However, its not too long before we're back to the same old contrived drama, just different time. Such a shame because the first couple of episodes show so much promise.

This show is not known for its realistic storylines, but was always enjoyable, an escape from reality. However too many episodes are boring, lack fun, some friendships like Brooke/Haley are negelected, and there's far too much focus on characters like Mouth. Mouth sometimes gets more screentime & storylines than primary characters like Haley & Nathan. Mouth was great in S1-3, but now there's too much of him and its just boring.

Haley, Nathan & Jamie are the best part of this season. Its worth purchasing just to see this adorable family. Its a pity we don't get many family scenes, and Nathan/Haley scenes because they are fantastic. Its still a shame that like earlier seasons Haley is used as a prop for others but still Haley is given some great scenes. Bethany Joy does the best with what she is given & is truly a delight to watch in all of Haley's different roles.

I recommend this season because while One Tree Hill's glory days are finished, there's still much to enjoy most notably The Scott's, the friendships like Lucas/Haley (which was sorely lacking in season 4 and thank fully is given more this season)and the cast chemistry.
