Flogging Molly Continues to Impress
2008-05-10
I love this album. My only complaint is that it's too short. I can't think of a single song on "Float" that I don't like and I would be hardpressed to pick a favorite, which is something I almost never say. If you're a fan of the band, you're sure to like this album. If you're new to Flogging Molly's music, this is a great choice for an introduction to the band's style and sound.

Flogging Molly have consistantly put out great albums.
You really can't listen to this album once or twice and write a review.
Spin it at least 3-5 times at least.
I like this one a lot.
I still think 'Within a mile of home' is the best, but this is easily as good as their others.
5 stars easy.
Another smash, and even better ! I love these guys and gal.

The lyrics are lyrical and the music keeps one coming back for reprise after reprise. The banjo work is great !
The best in recent years...Period

Have you ever listened to an album once and thought, meh, that was good, ok quickly put in an old favorite of yours?
This album, LIKE MOST Incredible albums grows on you the second you stop it.
You find yourself wanting more. More of that wholesome beat, the fine instramentals, the passion and honesty in the song.
I find myself in a mental uproar when listening to a little "03.float" or "04.lightning storm" wanting to see the band live again, to experience the awesomeness that is dave king with a Guinness in a plastic cup singing with flogging molly playing their best.
'don't sink the boat...that you built to keep afloat'

Ok, first off, I have been listening to FM for about 6 years now. I was intruduced to them through a friend, who played me the fistrt 10 seconds of Drunken Lullibies and i was hooked. Now, its been a good couple of years since FM has realesed an album, so I was excited to hear that they finally realesed a new one. Well kiddies, unfortunatly its not the album I was expecting. Lets go with the pros first
Pros:
*This is the first album from FM that does'nt sound like it was recorded in a tin can. (though i almost consider that a con)
*This is the tightest the band has been (instrumentally)
*Some songs i like the up-beat feel to a little more than the older albums
Cons:
*The band has unfortuantly opted for a more mainstream rock lyrics rather than the "drinking songs" of old, though some songs still retain the originality.
* 42 minutes of music? C'mon, if I am gonna pay 15 bucks i would like something more filling.
*It took WAY too long for the band to come up with this little of music, I still love them to death but I'd like a little more bang for my buck.
Over all, this is not a horrible album, but its not the bands best either. Hopefully the next album will return more towards the point of origen. If you are a fan, then you owe it to yourself to pick it up, if you are not but are intersted in the band, then pick up Drunken Lullibies or Swagger.

I was sorely dissapointed with this CD. Sub par lyrics. The songs didn't grab me like their old ones. I never even felt like startin up a jig. Sad to say, but pass this one up.
Fun to listen to

My husband bought me this for my birthday, and I have to say that it's a real treat to listen to. It's also hard to sit still when it's playing - the beat just makes you want to get up and dance. It is definitely rock music with an Irish flair. I've been listening to a lot of Lunasa & Flook & Bad Haggis lately, so this is a bit harder rock than those.
Good stuff. I might have to get me some more of their music. :)
Flogging Molly makes me happy!

"I don't care what I lost, I just thank God I'm alive!" What a great ending to a great album by a great band. That line really personifies what this band is all about to me. Enjoy life. Celebrate it. At all costs. Another great album guys. Please don't stop.
And if you're thinking about buying this album, don't. Go see them live first, then you'll go buy all the albums without having to rely on some idiot reviewer like me.
Getting better all the time.

They succeeded in topping their older efforts with a more mature one. Dave King's vocals are finally understandable without a lyric sheet. They also felt the need to add a little political edge when the world needs that most, even from a former party-irish-drunk-punk band.
My first Flogging Molly CD will not be my last

I heard "Requiem for a Dying Song" at our local bookstore and snatched up this CD. I'm glad I did. I very much enjoy Celtic Rock and Punk and "Float" is an excellent addition to my collection.
What I really like is the tight musicianship. The band really plays well together. Their vocals are tight and strong. Most of the message is upbeat--so it's a fun CD to listen to. The sound quality is good, too.
If you enjoy Celtic Punk like the Dropkick Murphys, this is another group you will probably enjoy very much. I'm looking forward to getting "Drunken Lullabies" next.
