I LOVE MY NEW iTOUCH!!!! 2008-07-16
I recently purchased the 32g iTouch and absolutely love it! I can sync with my Outlook calendar and contacts, etc. and be able to check my email. Now all Apple needs to do is have more 3rd party software available, i.e., Word and Excel and I'm completely mobile! I love all the features...Video, music and photos. I can streamline everything with iTunes. Just wish it wasn't so pricey, but I got mine at a steal these days...$459 from AMAZON!

Warning, Software upgrade is not v2.0 2008-07-15
Warning, the "software upgrade" is not version 2.0 of the iPod touch software. Even as of July 14, 2008, you will have to pay $9.95 for the current version of the iPod touch operating system. Apple customer care representatives I talked to could not explain why a newly purchased iPod touch did not include the current v2.0 software. I am not sure if Apple will try this marketing gaff on their other products, that is they ship the old version of the OS, and make you pay extra for the current version.

I was won over by it 2008-07-15
I wasn't so sure about the iphone at first. I played with it in the store, and at first said "no" because I didn't like the "touch" keyboard. Once I realized all the other things it could do though, like mapping a location just by touching the address, I was sold. The response on the touch screen is amazingly fast.
It's much more than just a cell phone with a built-in ipod. Some of its many functions include web-surfing with a browser similar to what I'm used to using at home or work, mapping, (I LOVE the "where am I?" button,) and keeping a list of contacts that I can email or phone by simply touching the related information on them. I can keep my schedule on its calendar, and set it to remind me of something with an alarm (or not.) Not only does it have a clock, but if needed I can set an alarm, use it as a stopwatch, or check the weather and current temperature! I've learned the value of IM for private conversations, which is something I had never used before. It also has your basic calculator, camera, and even a stock ticker. I haven't tried watching a movie on it yet, but I have checked out some stuff on youtube. It works great!
I have probably 50 to 100 songs downloaded onto it, and am nowhere near the halfway mark on my 7-8GB of storage. Granted, the web browser is not compatible with "flash" web pages, and occasionally I "fat-finger" the keyboard, but the "automatic word fill-in" feature has a smart technology that remembers words you commonly use. This helps a lot.
Only problems I have encountered is that it won't map your location if you don't have cell service in the area (I think 3G fixes that by using GPS instead of triangulation.) One other thing is that you will hear interference noises (like a humming noise) when playing it through other devices. Putting it in "airplane" mode fixes that, but you won't transmit or receive messages. I noticed that when it is near my PC computer, the computer screen "wiggles" when the iphone transmits or receives (another form of interference.) They do need to come up with a version of "flash" that is compatible with their web browser.
I've owned one for 6 months now, and overall, I'm very happy with it.

Misleading 2008-07-13
I purchased the iPod Touch 16gb "with software upgrade" and was told that included future firmware and software upgrades. Now Apple is charging an extra fee to upgrade to the new iTouch firmware. So we paid extra for nothing.

Don't bother with the software upgrade at purchase since you will have to shell out again for the same thing.

Greatest Ipod Ever!!! 2008-07-19
I purchased this product late April, and i just updated it for the 2.0 iphone software update, and its just great... you can play now great games and has a bunch of free applications available on the itunes store, amazon has a great deal on this ipod touch, because if you want to buy it on a retailer store, the price is 325.00 dlls with tax and the gas money for the car that you are driving, etc...

Buy it in Amazon!!!

Amazing! 2008-07-19
I purchased this model late Tuesday night and was able to get a $10 discount and free super saver shipping. I new that the super saver shipping would delay me having the Ipod in my hand but Amazon has been terrific when it comes to shipping. Sure enough, the expected arrival date was between July 28th-August 1st. I recieved it today. Not bad with free shipping and it ended up arriving 3 full days after I ordered it. Much to my amazement also, when I ordered my ipod touch, the next day the price dropped.

This is an amazing piece of harware. The picture is outstanding, the sounds are amazing, and the new programs on it are something special. I was aware that version 2.0 came out and I wasn't expecting my ipod touch to have it. It would depend on when Apple ships out the Ipod touch with the new software upgrade. Many people were complaining that they didn't get the software upgrade they were expecting- 2.0. Please be aware that it all depends on what the supplier has. In Amazon's case, they probably still have the 1.1's. I haven't seen any reviewer say that they just bought their Ipod touch and it has version 2.0. If you went to Apple's website, possibly you would be able to buy an Ipod touch with the new software upgrade but I'm betting that the price will be somewhat higher. Amazon had the lowest price and my Ipod works like a charm.

Out of the box, it was easy to set up. Itunes was a little slow to install but I think that it's just my anti-virus software that is holding things up. Very annoying! Setting up an itunes account was easy and synchonizing my ipod was a sinch. The touch screen is very sleek and responds gently to your touch. Going through all the programs that are pre-loaded is easy. As I said before, the picture quality is amazing. Wi-Fi is a very nice inclusion and the ability to check your email is fantastic. My wife and I love to eat at Panera Bread which has Wi-Fi. The only minus is that the metal underneath the nice screen easily can be covered with fingerprints. This might drive some people crazy, as for me, I just grunt or shrug my shoulders. The box does come with a cloth so; no problem!

It is true that the Ipod touch is the most expensive out of all MP3 players but it's very sleek, easy to handle, easy to download songs on, and for anyone who likes to surf the internet or check their email; this is an outstanding product. I have a lot of cd's and time and time again they get scratched and repeat or don't play at all. It's time for me to put my cd's on my Ipod ( I did a few; it's easy!). I also bought this in preperation for my new car that has Microsoft Sync with an MP3 player jack. Enjoy!

Excellent: Much better than getting an iPhone 2008-07-18
This is better than the iPhone. First of all, it is thinner and more solid feeling in the hand than the iPhone. Second, it has all the features of the iPhone except the camera and PDA features. Both of those problems are solved by getting a dedicated phone that #1) probably has a better camera (with flash) and #2) has better customization options as well as better phone functionality. Call me old fashioned, but the virtual number keypad isn't my cup of tea. The solution for the PDA features is pretty obvious; a laptop. Obvious, isn't it? Who doesn't carry a laptop to work these days? Every young professional who is well-connected has the same setup. I work in New York City and pretty much all my co-workers and I have a solid featured phone with decent camera (I have a Nokia N82 - 5.0MP camera with xenon flash), an ultramobile laptop, and an iPod of some type. Well, since the main criticisms of the iPod touch - mainly that it is a lame-duck version of the iPhone (which is complete garbage) have been addressed, the only fact that remains is that it is by far the most attractive and feature packed media player on the market. Perfect for listening to music and entertaining oneself on subway or in flights.

Are people getting so lazy nowadays that they can't carry around a dedicated media player and a phone? Even if that phone happens to feature far superior phone features and camera? I have some friends who have gotten the iPhone and those who do all envy my current configuration. The only reason why I'd recommend someone to get the iPhone over the iPod touch is if they are on a pretty thin budget and need a PDA because they can't afford an ultramobile laptop like an IBM or XPS M1330 and a decent phone with a nice camera. Just my 5 cents. I absolutely love this iPod touch and it fills my needs exactly what I purchased it for; to entertain me during extended down times ie. flights, train, and so on.

Jack of All Trades and Master of Nothing 2008-07-18
I have been using a very tired, beat up, and abused 3rd gen iPod for years now... Because it works. The thing is absolutely bulletproof. I bought the iPod touch hoping to have the same results plus You Tube, Safari, etc. But the Wifi is so unreliable that the apps only serve as a constant reminder of what you would like to have but can't.

So, the old lesson is learned again. Reliability beats cool looks every time.

The iPod touch will go on the shelf, and I'll dig out the 3rd gen and keep using it until it dies.
Save your money on this one - something more reliable will come along someday.

Four Months Later and I'm Still Learning to Love It 2008-07-17
When my husband encouraged me to buy the iPod touch I couldn't help but wonder why I'd pay nearly $300 for an MP3 player. (I think on a basic use level like that.) I'd been perfectly happy with my iPod Nano for a couple of years, why switch?

For one, he wanted to test it out.

For two, it really is incredibly cool to use.

And for three, I keep discovering new ways to use it all the time.

I haven't even tapped into the power it has to manage my appointments or navigate me around. It's like a personal secretary and On-star in one...not to mention a music and video player and photo album and iTunes store.

Just about the only complaint I have with this device is in the music mode. Why doesn't the darn thing allow me to hit 'repeat' on a song? I had this issue with the Nano too. Seems like such a little thing (the issue that is). Sure I can hit the back button, but, seriously, this is/was a standard feature with most every cd player so why not iPod.

Overall, for those willing to spend the money--even if they aren't gadget geeks--they'll likely find an enjoyable personal pal in the iPod Touch.
