Worked fine with Mac OSX Tiger 2008-05-13
I was a little leery about this product. Other reviews seemed to suggest that the keychain's software would not operate properly when used with Mac OSX despite its packaging's claim that it should. I gave the keychain a shot anyway, because we do have a Windows machine in the house, though it's not our primary computer. I figured that if all else failed, I could always E-mail myself the pictures I wanted and use the Windows computer if I absolutely had to.

Well, I didn't have to. The keychain arrived and I installed the software on my Mac Mini without any trouble. The Mini runs Tiger (10.4), and I noticed the software claims to be compatible with Panther (10.3). I'm wondering now if those that had trouble are trying to run it on Leopard (10.5), which is not 100% backwards compatible.

At any rate, the keychain software was fairly instinctive. The only confusing bit for me occurred after I had selected my photos and uploaded them to the keychain. It seemed to do something, and then everything just...stopped. According to the manual, once you've uploaded the pictures you should close down the photo editor and disconnect the keychain, which worked just fine. However, nothing in the software indicated that this was the next step, so if I hadn't had the manual handy I probably would have assumed something had gone wrong.

My little pictures are displaying pretty well on the keychain screen. I'm not finding that the chain or clasp are inferior in quality; they're nothing impressive, but I think they're pretty standard as keychains go. The image quality isn't fantastic, but I think it's decent under the circumstances.

I purchased the item for $14.99. I think I got a pretty good deal.

piece of junk 2008-05-13
I read the mixed reviews. I ultimentaly decieded to try the product. The software would only let my download a few pictures at a time and then when I went to download more pictures in to the keychain it would earse the ones already on it. I returned it.

It doesn't work... 2008-05-13
It would not work on my Vista or XP computers, they would not even recognize it. The software is NO GOOD, I went to the coby website to re download the software...NO HELP! I guess it's an item before its time....I'm returning it.

Does not work on Macs. Poor documentation, support. 2008-05-11
After an hour or two of struggling, I found what others have confirmed -- despite the box stating it works with Mac OSX, it does not work on OSX 10.5. Avoid like the plague if you own a Mac.

There's a reason Coby is cheap -- they skimp on the software and documentation.

Awful software, won't even run! 2008-05-10
I bought this for mother's day and cannot even get the software to load. And you MUST use their software to get pictures onto the keychain. I contacted their customer service and the site gave me errors every time I tried to send in a request for help. I installed their software on three different computers, each of which crashed. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!

How can people be fooled like this!?!?! 2008-05-09

Product works, software does not! 2008-05-09
After reading many mixed reviews, I decided to give this product a try. When I received the keychain, I installed the software and attempted to follow the directions with no luck. After a call to the manufacturer technicial support, I was told that the software which comes with the keychain does not work. I was directed to download a driver from the company's website, which after some additional directions worked fine.

The quality of the keychain is good for the size, and other than the difficulty of picture downloading I have no complaints. On the positive side, the customer service department was very helpful.

If you cannot get photos to load - start here... 2008-05-08
I would have returned this item if it wasn't for some of the other reviews. So, just to reiterate - if you installed the software and cannot get the photos to load - here is what worked for me.

Uninstall the software.
Make sure the keychain is NOT plugged in
Go to Cobyusa.com - search DP-151
Download the Photo viewer software (it's the first choice under the picture of the keychain, do not use the individual drivers!)
Install software
Restart computer
Load all desired photos into a folder on your desktop (or somewhere else convenient)
Plug in keychain - put in update mode
Open photo viewer software
From software interface, open select photos to load onto keychain
Add photos onto keychain individually - FYI, they all get cropped and you can move the crop zone around and make it smaller, but not bigger
When done, click the multi-colored circle on top right corner to actually download the photos to the keychain - it will not say "download complete" it will just stop.
Ctrl-Q yourself out of there, unplug, and enjoy

Frustrating things:
-The software that came with the keychain did not work.
-You cannot drag and drop photos into the software - hence make it way, way, way easier on yourself and put all your desired photos in a temporary file (esp if you are like me and use iPhoto so your photos are stored by year, month, date... in sep files). iPhoto users CAN drag and drop from iPhoto into a new file (say your desktop) - so this is a BIG time saver
-Wide photos (lots of people) will be cropped square - so you run the risk of cutting off faces
-Some photos look stretched funny
-I spent two hours of my life that I cannot get back trying each of the drivers online at their "support pages" before going to the product page at Coby and pulling that software
-The silver clip/chain looks cheap compared to the rest of it

Pros:
-Blue is beautiful - really rich, shiny color
-Cheap
-Easy if you follow my instructions and don't even bother with theirs
-Photos actually look pretty good (better than I thought anyway)
-Software was very easy (except no drag drop, having to pull photos up individually)
-Can set it to slideshow with multiple timing options
-Has a clock that synced with my computer - can set it to turn off at a certain time!
-Rechargeable battery

Sorry this is so long - but it nearly had to go back - so hopefully this saves someone some frustration.

thumbs up 2008-04-30
I thought it would be drag and drop file transfer, but that doesn't work at all. After I installed and used the included software, there weren't any problems. The USB cord seems a bit loose. I used the cord from my camera, since it was a better fit.

Create a "Coby" folder to hold the photos to transfer. It's easier to have a edited batch in one place, than to transfer from many locations.

1 install software. Critical step. Drag and drop file transfer attempts will cause formatting dead end. Device cannot be formatted.
2 plug in usb, select USB update. Critical step, photo transfer software won't open without viewer attached.
3 open photo transfer software.
4 pick photos to transfer using buttons on device panel in center of frame. Simple interface, hovering over a button shows its function.
5 Click "download images" button on right hand side of frame before exiting.
6 enjoy.

bad experience 2008-04-24
It was not worth the money to return. It did not work from the begining.
It accepted the pics ok, but the battery does not last more than 30 min.

Review: "This Camera is one of the best in its price range. It takes beautiful clear pictures and can be used right out of the box, but its worth learning all its features. The included memory holds about 20-25 pictures so I upgraded to 128mb. I reccomend getting a 128mb card and the Sony camera case. Not only is this one of the best cameras in its class it includes decent software and rechargeable batteries that are at least a 20$ value.
HIGHLY reccomend over canon, kodak, and fuji. One more thing this camera has CARL Zeiss lens (if you dont know, great lens) all the competetors have generic lens."
