Very Good Sound - Display poor in bright light
2008-08-03
I just brought the Sony CDX-GT920IP auto radio. I am using my auto stock speakers and still sound great (Honda Civix 2-door LX). I find the interface for WM3 CD's and IPOD a little complicated. I figure it will just take time to get use to the controls. I liked the supplied remote it easy to user and safer to use when driving. Another user complained that it was hard to browse the IPOD music collection since you have to move one album or song at a time. That is not true, there is a brows option that let's you browse 10% of you music at a time, this can really speed up the browsing. My only real complaint it's hard to read the screen in bright daylight. This maybe be a big issue and I need time to decide if it's a deal breaker, since I like everything else about it. I only have had it for a day will update later.
Great sound; Ipod input awkward
2008-06-09
The sound is great; it's powerful and crisp. (With the note, I am not any super audiophile and this is with the car's factory speakers). Radio reception is very good also. The CD changer is "behind" the swing-door faceplate, which gives more space on the faceplate. The radio memory buttons (1-6) are very tiny compared to most radios. Two factors to think about. (1) The pop-off faceplate is easy to pop off but I find it pretty awkward to hook back on. (2) There is direct IPOD input, but the IPOD interface is pretty awkward. Think about going through 100 albums or 1000 songs, punching the "forward" key one at a time! And it takes a while for the Sony to display each new album name or track name (like 1/2 second). I bought this for the ipod direct input, but it turned out, manipulating the IPOD through the SONY is awkward and I tend to use the IPOD just with a short auxiliary sound cable. If you were listening to something like book-on-tape via IPOD the fact it is plugged in and charging might be worthwhile. If these two factors are not a concern for you, you'll be happy.
