Editorial Review

Finally, a book for single women who, unsatisfied with living a worldly lifestyle, want to give their lives a new and godly direction. Author Dawn Eden, a Jewish-born rock journalist turned salty Christian blog queen, gives these readers the positive and uplifting message that they've been wanting to hear-that spiritual healing and a renewed outlook await them. Using her own experiences in the New York City singles jungle, she shows women how they too can go from insecurity to purity, and from forlorn to reborn. She tells women who have been around the block how to find their way home.

Among inspirational books for single women, The Thrill of the Chaste is a pair of hip Ray-Bans in a field of rose-colored glasses. This isn't a book for dainty damsels in lacy white dresses patiently awaiting their handsome prince. This is for real women who need strong, motivational, and deeply moral messages to counter the ones they receive from a superficial, sex-obsessed world.

Men can get the thrill, too! 2008-09-04
Dawn Eden's book is a breath of fresh air, for men and women alike. While she writes from a female perspective, guys have plenty to learn from this book as well.

Dawn shows how chastity is a better path to happiness and sexual fulfillment for women, but guys who read the book can gain an additional insight: they can learn something about the feminine heart and what the (right kind of) girl is looking for in a relationship.

Now I don't mean to sound self-serving - Dawn's book is most definitely not a "dating tips" compendium. In fact, one of her best points is that chastity teaches guys and girls how to treat one another not as objects to be used, but as mysteries to truly love.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has done the dating thing and found it frustrating (which is probably most of us), and is looking for something more. Whether you're a guy or girl, Dawn has something important and beautiful to say to you!

A Prescription for Happiness and Fulfillment 2008-07-30
In an age where anything goes - especially when it comes to sex, serial dating and mating has become the standard M.O. among young singles... In "The Thrill of the Chaste...) Dawn Eden exposes the "Sex in the City" lifestyle, beyond any morality issues, for what it really is...an exercise in futility guaranteed to leave those who embrace it lonely, emotionally empty/numb, and moving away, rather than closer, to any hopes of marriage. And that's the upside...the downside is contracting an incurable and/or fatal STD!
This book is "must read" for anyone who has ever questioned whether "sleeping around" in pursuit of physical pleasure will lead to happiness! This is also a good read for parents who were sexually active before marriage/children. These parents tend to teach their kids about the dangers of alcohol, drugs, tobacco but not sex! Many feel that since they survived their own sexual exploits that there's no need to encourage abstinence before marriage (i.e. chastity)... Hmmm... Well think again! When teens experiment with sex they are risking their health and possibly their lives.
Kudos to Dawn Eden for promoting the virtue of chastity, a practice that is guaranteed to lead to an increase in the number of successful marriages, a reduction in the number of unwanted pregnacies and containment of the spread of STDs. Now who's not for that!!!

Love it! A book for women who can finally see through all the false theories the media and popular culture feed to us.

So much insight in one little book 2008-06-07

Keeping Your Clothes On]]
There is so much true enlightenment and wisdom packed into this little book, that could only come from experience. I want to thank Dawn Eden for
her candor and genuine concern for others that she expresses so nicely in this book. I think all singles should read this book. I am a mother of 11 children and I plan on buying several more copies for my older kids. Her personal stories are charming and her rubber-band ball theory is hysterical. READ IT!

Thrilling Breath of Fresh Air in Today's Smothering Sexual Society 2008-04-27
Remarkably well written. Dawn Eden's The Thrill of the Chaste is a breath of fresh air that is much needed in today's world of smothering sexuality. For anyone who has been in an unsatisfying relationship, called a prude, a tease, or has been ridiculed for being a good girl; this book shines light on the beauty and grace of women who respect themselves enough to resist the temporary ecstasy of a few moments of fleeting sexual pleasure in order to empower themselves to see beyond the superficial exterior of the typical dating world and enable them to attract the kind of man that is worthy of one day being their husband. Beautifully written, mature and honest, Eden doesn't force anything on the reader. She will make you smile, sigh, and shake your head as she shares her own experiences. This book makes the reader take a look at their own past and offers some tools in being proactive about the way they approach meeting, dating, and carrying on potential future relationships. Loses a little momentum near the very end, but finishes beautifully. For both virgins and the not-so-virgin, this book is guaranteed to make you think.

The Thrill of the Chaste 2008-02-26
February 26, 2008
Dawn Eden is an imaginative and colorful writer who knows how many examples to balance in tandem with the principles she cleverly intertwines. She addresses the major elements in explicating the Christian/natural moral insights she has discerned through both her own dead-end experiences and her thoughtful reading, discussion and reflection. Weaving her personal examples, attitudinal changes in her life-style with her creative writing avoids a dread text-bookishness and provides the reader with numerous peaks of relaxed entertainment. Thought the theme is undoubtedly contra-cultural, as Christian morality can be in our amgiguous times, she is in step with those who have an ability to exercise light-hearted humility and a good journalists sense of humor with a profoundly serious discussion on complex emotions and reasonable analysis.

wish I'd read this earlier 2007-11-16
Dawn has explained things to me that I wish I'd known before I had teenagers. Far beyond the "just say no" books, or even the "avoid pregnancy and STD's" advice, Dawn captures, as much as anyone can, what is at the heart and soul of getting too involved too soon. She speaks the truth, from experience, about what cost there is to a young woman's mind and soul when she becomes used to, and tries to be content with, casual/pre-marital sex. She also speaks directly to young women in words and ideas they can relate to, and she does this with stories and examples from her own life. Parents of jr. high and high school age children might want to read this and work the ideas and principles into their talks with their children. It seems to be intended for young women in their 20's and up.

Eden Regained 2007-11-11
I must admit that I was salivating over the thought of reading this book for months. I am an avid reader of Ms. Eden's blog, The Dawn Patrol, and her writing style impressed me. The book does not slack from her witty, concise, and current prose. She shares many of her experiences with unchastity in a humorous, frank manner. Most amazingly, she shares these intimate moments without being gossipy and gratuitous in detail. It is rare these days to find any popular books which don't contain gratuitous sexual imagery or innuendo, so for a book which is dealing heavily with this subject to handle it tactfully is very impressive.

Throughout the book, Ms. Eden wove in the Christian understanding of marital relations by juxtaposing it with the Sex and the City philosophy as espoused by Carrie Bradshaw from the popular television show. Not surprisingly, her experience taught her that television deluded its viewers. Television, and pop culture in general, had shown strong women as those who used sex to get love. She actively followed this philosophy for years until realizing that it had not led to any serious, loving relationship and, furthermore, it was turning her into someone who was incapable of finding such a relationship. Once she knew this, she began actively loving everyone, instead of just those who took her to bed. She turned herself into a loving person, so that she can hopefully find the man that the Lord has for her. Resigned that the Lord may have other plans for her, she shared how she is far closer to marriage now than she ever was in the past.

The book defied my expectations by being more than the memoir of a past, sinful life but also an insightful look into how the ways of the world had deceived a young girl while the ways of the Lord brought her hope and fulfillment, while keeping her clothes on.

Brilliant, but... 2007-10-27
I give this book 5/5 because it is an excellent book written from the position of someone who's speaking from experience and is still struggling. It's real.
I can't think of any other book that is so good and worthy of being recommended to everyone, male or female, on this subject.

So, what's the 'but'?
I think the book has a slightly residual 'slugs and snails, and puppy dog's tails' about it when talking about men. She doesn't really make enough of the point that men can be just as crippled and damaged as women by media and significant others' tacit assumptions and expectations about what we 'ought' to be.

Despite this, I found it a very moving, encouraging, and hopeful book, not least, because she's 'not finished yet', and that's so re-assuring when so many others (overconfidently) assume they've made it.
