Awesome even without co-op
2008-07-08
Overall, this is a pretty good compilation of songs from Aerosmith as well as "cover" songs from other bands that Aerosmith liked, influenced, or was influenced by.
Sweet Emotion is just awesome to play. Easy, medium and hard are pretty easy if you've gotten through hard and expert on GHIII. Even Expert mode at the beginning isn't too bad, but it does get tougher as you move forward into the band's history. However, it does seem to have been made easier than what GHIII was.
The gameplay is typical GH play. You start each set as the opening act, playing 2 cover songs. When you play as the cover band (which is the first 2 songs for each set), you play as the characters from GHIII (which you can choose for your profile). But, once you've gotten past the cover tunes, then Aerosmith comes out and then the show REALLY rocks as you play two songs and then an encore as Aerosmith.
You earn money and each set begins with a video with the band explaining that part of their history. You can unlock more songs as well as more lengthy videos to learn more about Aerosmith and their history.
Overall, if you're an Aerosmith fan, you cannot go wrong with this. Casual GH players may find this a let down as the song list is smaller than GHIII, but for me, this is an awesome addition for the Wii GH franchise.
This gets four stars because there is no co-op and there is no Dude Looks Like a Lady. Otherwise, the songs are great and it's going to make me break out my Aerosmith CDs and listen to them again.
"Dude Looks Like a" . . . DUD !

I was really looking forward to this. I am a moderate Aerosmith fan with at least 12-15 favorite songs that would really rock in this game. Unfortunately, only 3 made it. The songs that were chosen would be great if the GH player were as old as Aerosmith (that's right) well over 50-years-old. And guess what, my Dad doesn't want to play! So why weren't more songs from the last 15 years chosen? Yikes, I say!
I also started on HARD and got all the way through without any failures. And I'll be honest, I'm not the greatest player. GH3 on hard still gives me fits toward the end.
I'll say the replay value on this game is just about nil. I'll probably return to play a few (5-6) of the songs, but I'm about to give Rock Band for the Wii a try if this is all Activision is going to put out.
This one is a dud. I'd pass if I were you.
Great first time guitar hero game
2008-07-06
This is my first guitar hero game, and I really like it a lot! It's fun trying to beat the songs on Easy, then Medium, then Hard, etc. It seems like what a lot of other reviewers have a problem with is it's similarities to other GH games - but I think on it's own it's pretty darn fun.
It's true that not all of the songs are that great - I'm not an Aerosmith fan, and some of the B-sides just don't sound good - but almost without exception they are fun to play, and I find that by playing them I actually start to like them more.
That said, I probably would have preferred a non-Aerosmith branded game, with a larger range of bands. Aerosmith is a fine band, but I think I would have preferred greater variety.
I find the boss battles to be really difficult - I'm unable to beat the Joe Perry boss battle on medium, even though I can get through all of the songs prior pretty easily. The problem is that you can't practice the battle, so you have to keep trying which is kind of lame.
Some niggles: I found "The Vault" interface (where you buy songs, videos, character models, outfits, etc) to be a little confusing, and most of the character models to be either inappropriate (especially slutty girl models) or just gross (most of the guy models).
I found the guitar controller itself to be nicely made and quite responsive.
So, overall I think this game is a lot of fun and this first time Guitar Hero owner is having a lot of fun working through the Career mode on medium!
People get it right

Why is everyone complaining about these songs being unheard of? What do you people want, to play Guitar Hero to lame 90's songs like Cryin and I don't want to Miss a thing? Give me a break. I read some reviews saying these were not famous Aerosmith songs. All of Aerosmith's body of 1970s work is not only their BEST but also their most FAMOUS. the reason everyone makes fun of aerosmith now is because of songs like pink, cryin, crazy, amazing, all that pop bubble gum stuff. all these songs from the 70s are ideal for a game based on a GUITAR. how do you think aerosmith rose to stardom? hello, BY PLAYING THE SONGS ON THE GHAEROSMITH SET LIST. THESE SONGS ARE AEROSMITH'S BEST SONGS, BY FAR.
Disappointing!

I just joined the Guitar Hero cult with Guitar Hero III for Wii. I adored the game and was counting the days until the release of Guitar Hero Aerosmith. Now I wish I had saved myself the $50!
1) There is no co-op career. My fiance and I loved to play together in career mode and this was a big let down for us.
2) MUCH easier (and therefore kinda boring) than GH3. I easily beat the game on Hard without once having to start a song over, and getting at least 4 stars on each one.
3) The song selection is terrible. There are only 3 or 4 really great, well known Aerosmith songs. The rest are either stuff from the present that nobody knows or stuff from the 70's that I haven't previously heard. Some of the songs I'm not familiar with are OK, but I would've much preferred to see songs that I know and love. As for the non-Aerosmith songs, most are extremely boring and simple with a few that are ok (Joan Jett and Lenny Kravitz stand out in my memory).
4) Looking at the animated Steven Tyler gets really freaky after a while.
I'm already back to playing my GH3...and putting this up on Craigslist!
Absolutely Horrible.

First Time Playing Guitar Hero, Very Fun Game!!
2008-07-04
As the title of this review stated, this is my first time playing Guitar Hero, period. So I can't tell you how it stacks up vs GH3.
That said, I found it to be a fun experience, which will only make me want to go get GH3 for Wii. Aerosmith wouldn't be my first choice of bands, but unlike many who clamored for more hits, I liked playing some other songs I may have not heard of or forgotten about. The Run DMC tracks were a blast also.
We're gonna have to wait for downloadable content when GH "World Tour" comes out. If you're a fan of Aerosmith or even just a casual fan, this is an enjoyable game. If you can't stand them, then perhaps it's best to wait for the next version of GH.
Guitar Hero drops the ball

Boring, Boring, Boring. No wonder Aerosmith is not considerd one of the great guitar bands. Plugged it in and went through the entire set list on hard and only had to start over on one song. Extremely easy compared to GH3. GH3 had some great songs both modern and classic. The Aerosmith songs are awful except for a couple and the other songs stink out loud. I am not a huge Aerosmith fan but still figured it would be fun. IT'S NOT!!! I expected more from Guitar Hero. Very dissapointing. Rent it and return it the next day after you have beaten the entire game on expert. I wish I had.
For Aerosmith Fans only

I was not too happy with the song lists for this guitar hero. Unfortunally I should have looked online before I bought it to see what the songs lists were. I wanted more songs and didnt realize (dummy me) that it would MOSTLY be aerosmith songs. Since Im not such a big fan of Aerosmith I knew approximatly 5 songs off the whole game. Its like all the guitar heroes, just mostly dedicated to the band and their not so famous songs. I really feel you need to be a HUGE Aerosmith fan to really enjoy this game.
GHERO AEROSMITH REVIEW
2008-07-03
Game is a great continuation to GH3. This game is not about graphic quality, so don't ask. If you're a true Aerosmith fan, you'll like the chronology and selection of songs. I also agree there could be more. There's a huge catalog to choose from. You'll find yourself turning up the volume and getting lost in some of the songs. I definitely see a trend starting here. Get ready for GH4 Metallica. . . Cary Kinder / Franklin, Oh
