Unbelievable HDTV - Samsung gets nod over Sony 2008-05-13
Searching for the right HDTV took some time for me, roughly 1 year in the process. I ultimately chose the best HDTV: Samsung's LN52A650.

2007 models, both Sony & Samsung didn't seem to work out all of the kinks in their products. 120Hz refresh was ok on 2007 models, but overpriced. I chose the Samsung over the Sony for numerous reasons, but two main reasons: Styling and Price.

Reason #1: Styling

As great as the Sony 52XBR4 was in reviews I just didn't like the glass bezel, just unattractive to look at. I particularly like the curve that Samungs have at the bottom of their TV's, distinctive and stylish, unlike a plain rectangular screen. The TOC is rather pleasant, not overwhelming, but just a hint of color.

Reason #2: Price

Despite being a fan of Sony...Sony consistently sells their products at a premium. Samsung models typically are priced cheaper with just as many options as Sony tv's and it's no wonder Samsung is beating Sony; just look at the bestselling HDTV's here at Amazon.com.

Phenomenal 2008-05-13
I've had this tv for about a week now, it replaced a 1st generation Mitsu DLP. The picture quality is an order of magnitude greater, and I was already impressed by the 1080i on my wd-62525. The settings out of the box need to be adjusted; everything looks a little washed out/cartoony at first. However I found a great list of settings for close to reference quality picture. I've included them below my review if anyone else might want/need them.

Ceva's delivery service was excellent. They called me 2 days after I ordered the TV to schedule delivery, which was a week before Amazon showed the estimated delivery date. When it arrived, they took the TV out of the box, put it on my entertainment center, and patiently waited as I went through several screens to test the TV for any possible defects.

I will never buy electronics from a store again. And, as of right now, Amazon has a loyal customer for all my home theater needs. I would definitely recommend picking this TV up here if you're interested in buying it. On top of the great service, I couldn't get anyone to touch the price by close to $1000.

Enjoy!

Stunning picture - couldn't be more pleased 2008-05-13
I purchased the Samsung LN52A650 1.5 months ago as soon as I saw that there was a firmware patch for the shut-off issue. We started experiencing the shut-off issue a couple of days after receiving the TV. I installed the patch and have not had the problem again since. (It's been 4 weeks since the patch.) The picture quality is fantastic. The local cable company HD service is 1080i and the picture is excellent. With Blu-ray discs the picture is stunning. We also use it for game play with a Playstation 3 and Wii. Works flawlessly and I have not seen a single hint of ghosting even with the fastest action games. I'm very pleased with the purchse, the Amazon price, and in-home delivery.

Overall Great experience - start to finish. 2008-05-12
Shipper (CEVA) was superb...quick response, great communication and tv arrived a full 10 DAYS prior to quote from Amazon! CEVA even let me change shipping address mid-shipment w/o any issue or delay to shipment. They scheduled my appointment around MY availability and delivered on a Saturday. Total order went from purchase on Wednesday - to in my house and setup in my living room on Saturday. Professional delivery service and could not ask for more from them. Very accommodating.

TV is outstanding in both terms of external looks and actual display. When viewing a true 1080p image, makes HiDef look like Standard definitionin comparison. You can put your eye 1 inch from screen and not see any distortion. Amazing in terms of a 52" tv. Next level stuff.

A very nice LCD in the market. 2008-05-12
I have received this LCD 3 days ago and wanted to share my experience here. This is very nice and spectacular LCD available in the market. I have did a lot of research before buying this and compared with sony and sharp. I don't remember how many times I visited BestBuy to see the differnece between these 3 TVs. Finally I have voted for this TV and I am very happy with it now. I would recommend this TV. I don't want to talk about the Technical Stuff but this is worth spending this much money and Amazon's purchase was a breeze.I received this in 5 days after ordering.

left us speechless 2008-05-09
I focus on the style as much as picture quality. We bought a samsung 40''LCD a year ago.LN-S4052D 40" beautiful white, the design was inspired by red wine glass. Both appearance and picture quality are fantasic. Color contrast Ratio is 4000:1, the highest at the time.

Then we bought this one last week. We are speechless because it's even much better that the "Fantasic one", so can not find words to describe. Some might not agree, I do like the black crystal style panel.

This is the perfect TV should look like.

Great looking HDTV 2008-05-08
I compared this model today at BB which was right next to the Sony 52w3000. Both were running on the same feed as was all the others. I think that the two were almost exactly the same in picture quality. Both were beautiful to look at. I might even give the Samsung a slight plus on color.

I am now waiting on the Sony 52w4100 to compare with before jumping on the wagon.

Great HD Set, Do the Upgrade 2008-05-08
Our Samsung LN52A650 HDTV worked great without issues right out of the box. The clarity is phenomenal but the sound is "ok". The TV has plenty of AV inputs including 3 HDMI inputs, plus USB and ethernet connectivity if desired. We were a bit skeptical with the spontaneous off and sound popping problems reported in early reviews. We did notice some popping when switching menus in TiVo so we downloaded the latest firmware off the Samsung support site, installed it through the TV's USB port and the popping disappeared. This FW version also corrects the spontaneous off issue. If you like baseball, golf or hockey this is the ticket in HD mode - Every detail, every face in the stands, every blade of grass is incredibly clear with no blurring during high speed action. The unit has been working GREAT for weeks now and we are ecstatic with the picture. The sound, on the other hand, is good enough for viewing but certainly not home theater standards. Overall we are extremely happy. Two thumbs up!

Best TV out there, latest technology 2008-05-07
I've only had the TV one week now, it looks great on HD channels, I haven't had any problems , setup is quick, intuitive and very easy. Connected it to cable and the QAM tuner found all HD and analog channels. Another cool feature is the connection to Internet router which went without any problems and ....voila, real time news, stock quotes and weather...Absolutely stunning and breathtaking...Full heartedly recommend this TV
