Mediocre tool for assessing body fat

Assessing your body fat is an accurate method of determining your level of fitness and health.

This caliper is small and convenient. However, there are pitfalls. As you squeeze your skin fold, there is some variability from one measurement to the next due to its light construction. It is not durable over time with repetetive use and I question its validity beyond a 1 year time interval. Mine broke a little over 15 months at the 'hinge' opposite to the slide rule.

Conclusion

It is a portable, small tool for assessing your body composition but its durability over time is questionable (as is its accuracy). Use of the tool has a learning curve for accurate assessment.

Having read the other reviews, I personally am very happy with my purchase.

I have had no problem with the measurments being off. I also used an online calculation system and used other pinch points. However, I ended up with the same ending body fat calcuation I got with the one point the package insert gives direction on.

Not sure if it matters or not as far as how the product works, but I am right at the LEAN/AVERAGE calcuation.

I would recommend it without hesitation.

The price is tempting, but a fair price would be $0

The device is made of cheap stamped plastic; readings varied more than twenty percent in spite of my most-studious efforts. Please don't waste your money!

Its cheap and does what its supposed to. Its a little hard to get used to the feel but once you do it produces systematic results.

the body fat caliper performs as it should. ease of use would be benefited if measuring scale was easier to read, it is not as distinct as it could be.

I bought it on my trainer's recommendation. It's easy to use and cheap as compared to other alternatives.

I need to do some sort of comparison to a Lange Caliper or Skyndex or Hydrostatic Weighing to validate the accuracy of the unit. However, it is durable and seems to offer good test-restest reliability.

Not impressed with the item at all. It would have been better if the readout of the measurement locked into place on the scale, so that I could get an accurate reading, and then release it afterwards. The way it currently works is that it releases from the scale when I try to read it after a measurement, due to the change of my hand grip pressure. I would need a second person to read it in place, to get an accurate reading without taking my hand off of the caliper.

Unnecessary purchase

I got this, because it was cheap. But even at this low price, you don't need this caliper. It's useless without a knowledgeable person accompanying it. Instead buy an electronic fat analyzer, even if it's not accurate, you can follow the fat loss/gain much easily.
