The Basics
- Processor: With four execution cores, the 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600 blows through processor-intensive tasks in demanding multitasking environments and makes the most of highly threaded applications. Whether you're creating multimedia, annihilating your gaming enemies, or running compute-intensive applications at one time, new quad-core processing will change the way you do everything. The Q6600 has a top-of-the-class 1066 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and dual 4 MB L2 caches (for a whopping huge 8 MB shared L2 cache). (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
With four complete execution cores in a single processor, you get four dedicated, physical threads help operating systems and applications deliver additional performance that enhance multi-tasking and multi-threaded performance across many types of applications and work loads. The Smart Memory Access feature improves system performance by hiding memory latency, thus optimizing the use of available computer data bandwidth to provide data to the processor when and where it is needed. The Advanced Digital Media Boost feature effectively doubles the execution speed for instructions used widely in multimedia and graphics applications. And with the Intel 64 Architecture, the processor can access larger amounts of memory. - Hard Drive: The ginormous 500 GB Serial ATA hard drive (7200 RPM) provides more than enough capacity for storing a large audio and video library, as well as extra space required for video editing. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to Firewire and USB 2.0.
- Memory: The 2 GB of installed RAM (2 x 1024 MB DDR2) will satisfy many users, but this notebook's two DIMM slots have a maximum 4 GB RAM capacity--perfect for high-end video editing and 3D gaming. It also offers a top-of-class 667 MHz speed. To receive the faster data transfer benefits of the dual-channel DDR2 RAM, any RAM additions require memory modules of same capacity and clockspeed.
- DVD/CD Drive: The dual-layer DVD drive is compatible with a wide range of formats, including both DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs, CD-RW discs, and dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can hold up to 8.5 GB of data--great for backing up your MP3 collection or your most important documents.

The specs on this system is decent if you are looking to play games like WOW or COD4. I have no problem playing those games with good quality.
Good hardware for intense gaming action! 2008-07-01
This gaming computer is absolutely amazing and so quiet. Here are some more details they left out in the product description: The 912AT IBuyPower computer comes with an NZXT Alpha Classic case featuring the blue light as you see in the product picture, Asus P5KPL-VM microATX motherboard, 580W Power Supply, and Zogis 8600 GT 512MB Graphics. I received my computer today from Amazon One-Day shipping service, and it was all ready to go once I plugged it in. I purchased this computer for the purpose of being able to enjoy current and future games in high quality. I have already installed and played my personal favorites like Battlefield 2, Unreal Tournament 3, and Crysis. Let me tell you, the gameplay is very smooth and the detail is intense. You will be able to play future games to come, and even be able to upgrade this computer in the future if you wanted to. The only downside is that it's not PCI Express 2.0. However, I did some research and the majority agree that MOST PCIe 2.0 graphic cards will still work on non-PCIe 2.0 motherboards. Also, the current games that are out don't even max out the speeds of a PCIe 1.0 yet so we won't have to worry about this for awhile. I hope this helps, I'm pretty happy with my purchase.
