Nice Design, Solid and Quality DVD Player 2008-06-19
I bought a Panasonic DVD-LS80 8.5" Portable DVD Player for my sister and didn't like it as much as this Toshiba SD-P91S 9-Inch Portable DVD Player. The size is bigger most of other portable player but this has a bigger screen, easier to watch from a distance. I liked the design, looked very nice and the quality was good, worth my money! Glad I bought it!

A great, durable portable 2008-04-14
I set out looking for a portable that I could depend on when travelling. I wanted a bigger screen and quality audio visual because I really want to enjoy my movies and other DVD whether they are on the small screen or hooked-up to a bigger screen. I really feel like I found what I was looking for in this model.

In the box: Player, battery pack, remote control, power cords and adapters for home and car, special AV cables for output to a TV, owner's manual, etc.

Setup: Straightforward. Attach the battery pack, plug it in and power it up. Power is controlled by a hard power switch on the left side of the unit.

Performance: First, let me say that the picture quality is very good. The output is only 480p and its LCD, so the picture can appear lined in bright daylight scenes, but that is as expected I think. The sound quality is excellent through a headset. The volume control is good and can be raised to compensate for car sounds, although I can see how in high noise areas noise-cancelling headphones would be helpful. The built-in speakers are limited and tinny sounding. I had expected the quality issues, but was a bit surprised by the volume.

Connecting to other devices: Because the output is 480p, the resolution of the display may be degraded from what one might expect of an HD display unit, but definitely meets the quality of the player's standard. Sound is quite good as well, coming across as well as through my standard DVD player. Connecting is easy, although the connection to the SDP19S is non-standard, so don't lose the cable!

Notes: The remote control is larger than I expected and very full-featured - very nice! The body of this device is solid and could take a beating. The swivel for the screen is firm and solid as well - you won't accidentally separate screen and body. I haven't tried all the different kinds of media this player accepts, so I can't address them.

All in all, I think this is a very well made, technically sound, and fully featured DVD player.
