Continues to reach out and suck you right in! 2008-06-17
The only reason I didn't give season 2 a 5-star is because it ended a little abruptly (writer's strike side effect) so I wasn't completely satisfied with where we left things off in Dillon. But it does make me excited to see where and how it picks up at the start of Season 3. Thank you, thank you, thank you to whichever intelligent Execs elected to renew for recognizing true all-around TV excellence (writing, acting, camera work, everything!). There are way too many shows out today that lack creativity, actor chemistry, and any form of talent; Friday Night Lights puts them all to shame. Every show should dream of coming close to being as good as this one!

Purty Good 2008-06-15
Not as great as the first season. The Lyla/Tim/Jason/Mexico thing was ridiculous, not to mention the whole murder plot line. That said, it pulled through and I really enjoyed last few episodes.

FNL season 2 2008-06-09
This is quality US TV at it's best. Peter Berg's desire to show the depth in HG Bissinger's concept again shines through. This season sees all of the characters develop and in the case of Tyra and Landry somewhat incredibly. Unfortunately, due to the writers strike, we are left tantalisingly short of seeing the carefully built threads connect or unravel.

Go Dillon Panthers! 2008-06-08
For a shortened season it still managed to feel pretty full, but as I look back on the DVD I can sense that some storylines were artificially dropped and others extended. It seemed promising to me, that when Eric Taylor returns to Dillon, and has to be athletic director too as well as coach, that the female coach started giving him grief about her girls getting underfunded. And then what happened? Absolutely nothing--it wasn't a challenge to Taylor, just a joke. They made the female coach a laughingstock and that was that--just gave Connie Britton something else to do, coach a volleyball team and ignore her daughter some more.

Couldn't they have allowed another, similar story time to grow--I mean the one where Julie (Aimee Teagarden) gets a little too familiar with her journalism professor? They wrapped that one up so fast the ink is still dry! Why? Well, stories one and two were interrelated now that I think of it: sexy teacher was encouraging Julie to do some investigative reporting on her own dad and where the money goes in his program. Maybe they just decided to leave feminism out of it--or social justice? Instead they wasted what seemed like hours dealing with Jessalyn Gilsig playing Shelley, the funloving sister of Tami, and her hanging around the house all the time acting defensive when she wasn't acting trampy.

That's not to say the show wasn't great in general! I just got tired of Shelley and super tired of Julie acting so awful towards everyone else on the show. Afterwards, I advise you to watch the DVD extras which include a full Paley salute to FNL, with Peter Berg in attendance and many, many of the actors too (though so Smash for some reason!), and ask yourself, is Aimee Teagarden really a smart actress playing smart, or an airhead who just looks smart, because she done lost herself a fan with her insipidity and gum chewing. Filmed at the conclusion of Season One, the actors clearly have no idea what the writers are going to do with their characters!

It all boils down to the same problem The O.C. had with their Season Two. Season One was perfect, and then for Season Two, the writers introduced a new character for each one of the main characters, basically to break up all the happy couples. Thus, on FNL, Saracen gets a Guatemalan maid for Grandma, Julie gets the hot young teacher, Lyle gets a new Christian boyfriend, everybody's got somebody else to ratchet up the tension, but there's a point of diminishing returns when you double your cast list, for the viewers miss the concentration on the core cast. Oh who cares, I'd watch it if they had 1,000 actors on it. Go Dillon Panthers!

Best of the Best 2008-06-07
I loved this season of FNL. I know everyone says that the Tyra/Landry storyline was too much like a soap opera, but I LOVED IT!!! I love SMASH and his storyline, but i hate what happened to him. I would recommend this DVD because it has great writing, acting, and is just plain Hilarious, Surprising, and REAL...to an extent!!!!

BUY IT NOW FOR SUCH A LOW PRICE!!!

HOT TEENAGERS! LOL 2008-07-06
And the drama goes on. This is pure teenage art. Great show! Hope they keep the episodes coming even with rating falling.

It's just not for Fridays 2008-07-03
Highly recommend this series even if you aren't a football fan. A little edgier than season 1. Missing final 6-7 episodes due to writers strike, but knew this before ordering. It should be interesting to see how season 3 begins. The 15 episodes in this season were all very good.

FNL 2008-07-02
The DVD is great! I highly recommend getting to get all caught up before we go back to Dillon to see what the kids have been up to.

Oh No......... 2008-07-01
I love this show. I bought the first series on DVD, then watched the whole 22 episodes in five days. I was so hooked, I took a day off work to watch the whole of Season 2 straight through. What a disappointment. Second seasons are always hard, and you have to give credit to the writers for taking chances. Unfortunately, the risks don't pay off. The writing in this season doesn't compare to Season 1. Stupid, stupid storylines.......turn away now if you don't want spoilers. How ridiculous was the Landry/Tyra murder plot? Riggins having to move in with ferret keeping meth dealer? Jason going to Mexico to get injected with shark stem cells to walk again? Dreadful! Obviously they threw everything into Season 1, assuming the show wasn't coming back, then when the show got renewed they had to start with a blank page, and it really shows. Season Three will be make or break for FNL. If they get back to the level of Season 1, this show has the potential to be huge. If we get another Season like this one, it'll be the last. And more Matt Saracen! My favourite character by a mile, and his scene with Coach in the second to last episode is far and away the best moment of the whole season. Watch this only if you're a fan, if you're starting make sure you're watching Season 1 first............

Less Football, More Drama 2008-06-23
With significantly less football in the second season and much more drama its hard not to feel that FNL has followed in the same footsteps as many other teen-based shows. In the first season almost all the drama of the show revolved around football, making it a stand-out from other teen dramas, that are centred around coming of age stories. The second season is much more coming of age, with character development occuring almost entirely outside the football arena. A new arrival on the show, Santiago, brought the possibility of exploring how football and community based sports can help children from violent backgrounds assimilate back into a normal life but has been barely touched on, though this may have been due to the interuptions caused by the writer's strike. Similarly, Streets' recovery and adjustment into life in a wheelchair is also a minor storyline this season, with one one or two episodes touching on the problems this character faces as he finds himself floundering after the loss of his football college dreams. In fact, the characters from season one, who interacted so well together then, have now been split off into seperate storylines, each hardly intersecting with the others. This season, while still very good, lacks the grit and guts of the first season, but hopefully there is still time to recover.
