Good Upconverting DVD PLayer 2008-07-07
I purchased this upconverting DVD Player along with the Samsung LN46650 Flat Panel LCD. I know some reviewers have said there is no difference when watching their old DVD's, but I beg to differ. I see new colors I never noticed before in DVD's we have watched many times on our old DVD Player. Lord of the Rings is a good example. I know that series of movies is dark, but the detail and color when watching them with this new DVD Player and the New LCD are incredible. The other big bonus is the sound. I do not use the TV sound, I run through an old Carver (analog)reciever that is 20 years old. The sounds is incredible. I hear words and dialogue that I have never heard before in movies I have seen many times.

On the down side.........I havee had this DVD player for about a month and started noticing that it stops occasionally in movies that it worked fine with before. It is like someone pressed pause and then relesed it. Does not happen alot and not on every movie.........but just something I noticed. For $70, I can live with it though.

Overall, a great product for the money.

EXCELLENT UPCONVERSION DVD PLAYER!!!! 2008-07-05
For the price, this might just be the best UPCONVERTER in it's class. I strongly recommend considering this one. I have bought several for friends and family...Still no complaints or problems with ANY OF THEM...

I'd Recommend Avoiding This One 2008-07-01
Picked up this DVD player when I purchased a Samsung LCD, which I connected via HDMI cable. There were problems instantly, in the form of a "Searching for Signal" message. I'd lose signal on the menu screen, the title screen, and roughly once every couple of minutes while watching a movie.

I switched the HDMI cable between three different ports on the television, and had the same problem. I switched to a different HDMI cable, and still had the same problem. Even watching DVDs at 480p produced the same problem. I exchanged this DVD player for another Samsung (same model), and was still cursed.

Finally switched to a Sony 1080 DVD player (same cost), and have had no problems at all. Strange that Samsung would apparently produce a DVD player that was not completely compatible with their own HDTV, but that was definitely my experience, with two of them.

Works, but slow in ways that affect usability 2008-07-01
Overall: don't stress if you bought it, but if you haven't bought it yet, if you can find something different in the same price range, you might want to try it.

Positives:
1. works.
2. I love the feature when you turn the power off, it remembers where you were in the movie. When you power it back on, it takes you right back there!

Negatives:

1. Reacts very sluggishly to the remote control. Not sure what the problem is. Not only do I need to be pointing exactly at the device to get it to register, I really have to jam the buttons down and hold them to get the action to take. As a result I will frequently hit the pause button and have nothing happen. Then I have to back up and try again.

2. Takes a long time to load the first time. Thankfully if I power down the dVD while watching it, it remembers exactly where I was, and takes me straight to that, so it's less painful when you are continuing.

good, except for CDs 2008-06-30
Its a good products and plays DVDs nicely, but when a CD is inserted the mechanical noise while the CD is playing is loud and the play often hesitates for several seconds at random times. We haven't tried Blu-Ray yet...

DVD refused to work with my Samsung 32" 1080p TV 2008-07-21
I had bought a Samsung 32" 1080p TV and decided to get the Samsung upscaling 1080p dvd player, thinking they would talk nice to each other. Boy, was I wrong! Every time I played a dvd, every few minutes the video and audio would cut out, saying that it lost the signal and was searching for it. This happened continually.

First thing I tried switching HDMI cables. I tried 3 different cables, no luck. Next, I sent the dvd player back to Amazon for a different model, same behavior. Finally, since I had a 30-day return, no questions asked, from Best Buy, I had them come get my Samsung TV and exchange it for another of the same model. Still the same behavior.

A sales person at Video Only told me he had a customer who experienced the same abnormality that I did -- Samsung dvd player cutting out when playing through a Samsung TV. He brought back the Samsung and bought a Sony dvd player instead. Perfect picture and no signal problems.

I finally did the same. Bought a Sony DVP-NS700H/S and hooked it up. Worked perfectly with my original HDMI cable. Now I have a Samsung dvd that I may give to my daughter to see if she can get it to work. I love my Samsung TV but I will never buy another Samsung dvd or other component again.

Fair DVD Player 2008-07-21
I expected better image quality, when you forced 1080i the quality is fair. but below that is not that good. The picture is a little blur.

dont not buy. wont work long. 2008-07-15
I got this for free when i bought a tv. it worked great for 2 months, but it dosnt work anymore. i didnt drop it or anything. it just stoped working. dont pay for this. theres certainly a reason why there giving them away. i gave my old dvd player to my parents. now i have to go by a new one. thanks.

Who needs to go to the movies! 2008-07-10
Who needs to go to the movies! The Samsung plays movies flawlessly both visually and sound wise plus you never miss the begining looking for a parking spot and what movie house will pause the film as you step away from your seat.
Regardless of what kind of TV you have you will like your at the movies but there is no annoying chatter, food smells in the air or litter under your feet!
The seat you choose will make you feel at home.

Do Not Buy. HDMI Intermittent output. 2008-07-08
Have always liked Samsung products but this one is crapola.

Have received 2 and both have intermittent HDMI output. Units were tested on several TV's and cables that other HDMI equipment worked fine on.

I'm guessing Samsung has little or no Quality Control.
