Editorial Review
When the Mayflower set sail in 1620, it carried on board the men and women who would shape America: Miles Standish; John Alden; Constance Hopkins. But some among the Pilgrims were not pure of heart; they were not escaping religious persecution. Indeed, they were not even human. They were vampires. The vampires assimilated quickly into the New World. Rising to levels of enormous power, wealth, and influence, they were the celebrated blue bloods of American society. The Blue Bloods vowed that their immortal status would remain a closely guarded secret. And they kept that secret for centuries. But now, in New York City, the secret is seeping out. Schuyler Van Alen is a sophomore at a prestigious private school. Suddenly, when she turns fifteen, there is a visible mosaic of blue veins on her arm. She starts to crave raw foodand she is having flashbacks to ancient times. Then a girl from her school is found dead . . . drained of all her blood. Schuyler doesnt know what to think. Could those vampire legends really be true?Steeped in vampire lore and set against the heady backdrop of the rich, young, and powerful in the heart of New York City, Blue Bloods will be devoured by Melissa de la Cruzs legion fans.

An okay book. 2008-06-23
I found this book to be a page-turner for the sake of the plot, but nothing more. I dreaded the narrative and writing, but I still got around to care about the characters. The plot was inventive and fresh, and I really did like that. The AU it was written in, too, peeked my interest.

I flipped to the next page because I hoped it would get better; certainly, it was promising. It never did. I still believe the author could do great things, though, with a little more practice.

All in all, it was a little over average. On a scale from 1 to 6 where 6 is the highest, I'd rate it a 4-. It wasn't worth anything more than I paid for it, but sometimes, that's okay, too. Every book you read can't be so fabulous they rock your world. I won't deny that ten minutes after I was finished with it, though, I was looking through my bag for the next item on my to-read list.

Boring 2008-06-16
I have recently gotten into YA vampire literature, and after seeing this book as a recommendation on Amazon, I decided to give it a try.

What a waste.

The book jumps around so much, that it is utterly impossible to get to know (or like) any of the characters. One minute the book focuses on Schuyler, then Bliss, then Jack, then Mimi... You end up not being able to get a true sense of who any of the characters actually are. This is most predominant with Schuyler. In the beginning of the book, you are led to believe that she is a shy-loaner type that doesn't fit in. All of a sudden, she is outgoing (the model thing....what was up with that?!?) and gets this "take-charge" attitude that comes out of no-where. I thought that maybe her relationship with Jack would salvage some of the story, but even that was extremely choppy, and unbelievable. There was no development in the relationship and it mostly left me confused.

The book tries to get way too in-depth into the history of vampires - on the most superficial level, if that makes sense? Its like new layers of who vampires are and how they came about kept getting introduced into the story, but they were never fully explained. It's seemed like the author wanted the history of her vampires to be very complicated, but in the end they just came out confusing.

I found myself skipping pages of jibberish to try and get to end of the story where other reviewers said that the book finally got interesting and redeemed itself. The last couple of pages were *decent*, but certainly not enough to make me want to jump up and get the sequel (even after the enormous cliff-hanger that I was left with).

And (on a final note) I could really care less about what designer shoes and skirts each character was wearing. Maybe it's because I don't follow fashion very closely, but all of the descriptions about the designers each character was wearing were completely lost on me and made the book even less enjoyable to read.

Interesting... 2008-06-09
This book was different in a semi-enjoyable way. It definitely has a certain Gossip Girl feel, especially at the beginning, but if you stick with it, the second half of the book is a little more substantive. Not at all what I expected, but by the end I was relatively intrigued. It's such an easy read that you can't really go wrong if you give it a try!

The Gossip Girls do vampires. 2008-06-02
Is this book most defiantly young adult chick-lit? Yes. Are there plot holes galore in the vampire history in America? Oh boy. Are all the main characters insanely and unrealistically wealthy, pretty, and have a vast knowledge clothing labels (even the "poor" loner who claims to shop at thrift shops)? Wouldn't be a De La Cruz book without them.

Is the book a surprisingly delightful read. Why, yes.

The book is aimed at teenage girls, and that is who it panders to. However I was surprised to find how much I ended up enjoying myself.

The setting in urban New York and the descriptions of the locations was very fluid with what I know of the city. The characters where even bordering on endearing (or at least Schuyler and Bliss) at times.

The vampire mythos was an enjoyable play with the upper-class wealthy. And the vampire history albeit a little far-fetched was a lot fresher then many other mainstream ones of the sort (heres looking at you Twilight). The reincarnation cycle pulls a lot of interesting questions into play, and will hopefully be answered in following books.

I hope the book lures teenagers who are fans of books like Gossip Girl, into reading other vampire books. This book is a treat for teenagers, and adults who wanted a light beach read, with a little vampire thrown in.

Liked It A Lot 2008-06-01
I picked this book up on a whim -hadn't heard of it before and was just looking for something to take with me on vacation. I ended up being engrossed in the book -more so then the vacation itself! I had a very difficult time putting it down and actually searched out the second book (had to go to two bookstores but worth it) -which was even better than the first. I recommend this book -for sure.

I know its not Twilight but the 2nd book is even better! 2008-07-07
Blue Bloods is an intersting turn on vampires. I don't think it can compete with Tilight but its still good. I love the Gossip Girl appeal it has and the historical linking it does..it even ties in with the bible which is even cooler. Yeah it might seem slow at first but the second book Masquerade is sooo much better and I can't wait for the third!

btw: I know vampires because I have over 40 vampire books. Everything from teen, fiction, or paranormal romance, I know vampire books. It's pretty good in my opinion.

Bled dry 2008-07-07
I read this book because I am in a vampire craze right now after speed reading the "Twilight" Saga. This book is a complete opposite of that storyline. "Blue Bloods" is an easy read but not well developed. It ends leaving you wondering what is going to happen next, but it seems that the author does not know what she wants to do herself. There are a lot of characters and you have to pay attention other wise you could lose the thread of this still developing plot.

Relationships need more detail 2008-07-03
This is a pretty good book and i really would give it 3.5 stars if i could. The only thing missing is that the relationships between characters are not developed enough. For instance, some of the characters meet each other briefly and suddenly they are in love, making the reader feel like they missed a whole chapter or something . The characters could use some more developement too, especially Schuyler.

Second best to twilight. 2008-06-30
Being a vampire lover and finishing Twilight made me search out for something similar. Blue bloods is that next series. Everyone I have recommended these books to has loved them! Fun series to read and different twist that I loved on how vampires came into being. Once you're done this one you can't wait for Masquerade and revelation!

Entrancing! 2008-06-29
I picked this up in a bookstore as I was brousing and desided to read the first few pages. I literally sat there for the three huors it took me to read the book straight through. It was enthralling! After that first read I picked up the sequel, bought both, went home and read them each twice through.
