The American Red Cross FR500 is a compact unit that you can toss in your rucksack and take anywhere. It functions as an AM, FM, and shortwave radio with NOAA weatherband. It also has a flashlight, an emergency beacon, and an emergency siren. Plus, you can use it to charge your cell phone or MP3 player.

WRONG ADAPTER

Great Radio... wrong adapter. Amazon links the two but if you read carefully this adapter is for the FR up to 400 series and I got it for the Solarlink FR *500*. This is a 4.5 volt adapter and the FR 500 requires a 5 volt adapter. Customer service at the "store" that shipped it to me was EXCELLENT, full refund no questions asked. Amazon screwed the pooch on this one by linking two incompatible products. (Insert Jeff Bezos laugh!) :)

Great to have in case of emergency

The perfect emergency radio and a great addition to my emergency kit and my travel bag. It only needs to be waterproof and it would be perfect. I liked the options with this unit better than for the waterproof version.

The FR500 emergency radio

This product was a complete disappointment. It was overpriced, but you would only know that once you received it and saw how cheaply made it was. Much akin to cheap door prize.
The second disappointment came when attempting to operate it. It didn't work at all. You couldn't dial in any of the stations. The only part that did work was the siren and lights.
We returned it right away for a refund. Don't be fooled into trusting the words "RED CROSS". It meant nothing. Didn't even want to rate it with one star...

The FR500 radio is as much or more than I expected, will be used for weather conditions as well as very good AM/FM news, and some SW as conditions allow.
Seems like would play forever out in the sun or with bright sky what with the very good Solar cell.
