Ryobi Tiller is a good light duty machine 2008-07-08
Overall works well in New England if soil is wet eg just rained. Found as in other reviews that to start is tough but once running did the job very effectively. Overall very pleased with the unit and have had for four months and given a signficant workout. As for starting problems found that Ryobi instructions never seem to get these to start. Pump the primer bulb eight times and put the choke at half to start, once warmed up did not experience other problems. Would also run the maching dry after each use which significantly reduced future starting issues

synthetic blend oil a must? 2008-06-18
I read reviews about the machine starting and running well, then failing to start and/or run well again. I had the same problem with a gas trimmer - directions said "synthetic blend," but I figured it made little difference - it hardly worked at all with regular oil mix. Once I used the synthetic blend, however, it worked very well. So... I don't know for certain if this is the solution, but I've only used a synthetic blend oil (got mine at Sears), and the tiller has been running extremely well.

cultivator in surgery needs your prayer 2008-06-10
I purchased a refurbished Ryobi Cultivator with a one year warranty. The poor thing had a heart attack five minutes out of the box- I guess the trip was too much for it. I raced it to the recommended repair technical cultivator surgeon who has gone in and gotten to the heart of the matter. The cylinder and piston were both scored. He thought it was possibly a small metal fragment left behind when it was worked on. There was no way it could maintain compression. It is on the donor list for a new cylinder and piston and there is a chance I may still get to spend some quality time with it....hopefully before September.

Perfect little tiller 2008-06-09
This tiller is great. I had no trouble using it in New England soil. I had a little trouble starting it at first, then i followed the instructions and it started right up. Since then I've no problems with it. It works so great I don't even need to put sand in it. Great tool for any size garden.

Lots of power for a small tiller 2008-06-02
A real work horse of a tiller. Was a little hard to start but after that it easily tilled the dirt and we have a clay mixture in some area we plowed. Makes it a breeze to put out those flowerbeds and small gardens. Easy to get between rows of plants and vegetables.

DO NOT BUY! 2008-05-19
I purchased this item based upon the early good reviews on Amazon. Unfortunately, since my purchase there have been a number of bad reviews with customers having trouble getting this cultivator to start. After using the cultivator only ONCE, mine now no longer starts either! Clearly there is a defect with this product.

Amazon does not accept returns on this item. I contacted Ryobi to return this obviously defective item to the manufacturer. I was told by Ryobi that they are not set up to accept returns from retail customers. In other words, if you make the mistake of purchasing this defective piece of junk neither the distributor nor the manufacturer will accept a return.

Don't waste your money on Ryobi products. Find a manufacturer that stands behind their products and accepts returns when items are defective.

STRONG ARM AND PERSISTANCE TO START 2008-05-14
THIS TILLER WORKS FINE IF YOU CAN GET IT STARTED. EVEN FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER AND HAVING BEEN FORWARNED ABOUT STARTING DIFFICULTY IT STILL IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO START. AFTER ABOUT 50 PULLS I ALMOST GAVE UP BUT THEN AFTER WAITING A COUPLE OF MINUTES BECAUSE OF EXHAUSTION IT FINALLY STARTED. FROM THEN ON THE UNIT PERFORMED FUNCTIONALLY.

don't buy this 2008-05-12
I bought it from Amazon. It makes me so mad. It never start since I recived it. I have several gas run small engine tool, and I know how to operate those machines properly. But this one .. I really give up. I try to check out the spark plug also, It sparks not in perfect condition, so I tried to go to home depot to buy another spark plug. Another stupid thing happens. In the manual it says "The cultivator uses NGK BPMR7A or Champion RCJ-6Y spark plug. Use an exact replacement and replace annually" . I bought RCJ-6Y one. It does NOT fit. Oh my Godddddd

Fantastic !!!! 2008-05-09
This tiller is everything advertised. Works great and easy to handle, I highly recomend.
