A simple mop
2008-07-08
The Steam Mop does exactly what they advertise it does: a rag that clean small areas with steam, nothing more. You cannot use this mop to do your regular cleaning. You feel like you are actually cleaning your floors with a rag that gets dirty constantly and needs to be wash more times than you would with a standard mop. In the carpet I didn't see anything spectacular. It doesn't clean or refresh the carpet like it claims. It only shoots steam to the carpet. Save your money and keep your regular mop. You will save money, time and your floors will be sparkly clean.
Great for medium jobs and chemical-free

I hate getting on my hands and knees scrubbing with toxic chemicals - not good for pets or crawling kids. If your floors are filthy I dont think this is for you. But if you use it regularly it does the job and I like that it sanitizes naturally. Tough sticky stains just need more passes and patience. Dust/hair does get pushed around to the edges but once it is dry I just zip over it with a swiffer type product and all is good. You should certainly vacuum well beforehand. It also runs out of water often. But it heats up quickly and is easy to refill. Works well for my needs. Sure beats poisonous cleaners. So 3 steps - vacuum well, steam clean and then do one more once over with your swiffer around walls/edges once a week. Sound like a lot of work but this is my preference. The only thing it did not clean was some wax that dripped on my tile. I gave up after about 30 - 45 seconds of concentrated attention. I just used an expired credit card to scrape that off. Buy the extra pads, change often and simply throw in the washing machine. I did have higher hopes that it would work miracles but nonetheless I like it a lot.

I bought this product of the TV infomercial - great concept, but it was like pushing a very, very wet rag across my hardwood floors. First, the steam never evaporated. Second, there is no way to control the steam and how wet the mop gets. Third, it cleaned just a bit of my floor, but left ring marks, spatters, etc. It's going back tomorrow BUT I had a difficult time getting customer service to give me return authorization numbers which must accompany the item for a refund. Instead "customer service" first attempted to offer me 35% off plus an extension of the warranty. When I said no thank you, the representative attempted once again to talk me into keeping the item. I didn;t even let the representative get out the second offer - I had to speak over him that I was RETURNING the item - he finally conceded and authorized the return.
A wet Swifer works better!
steam mop review

I have returned this product and have not received a credit. I think it is a good steam mop but my kitchen floor is too small. I still had to get down on my knees to wash around the edging. Please credit my account.

The mop is ok...lots of steam...hardly gets the floor damp enough to mop up any water spots, etc. It does not work very well on my black ceramic tile (but nothing does). I have tried everything on it and there is nothing that will take away the film..I was just hoping this worked. The reuseable pads are good and the fact you don't have to buy cleaning supplies for it..just add water. So that is good.
Keep looking! (the good, bad & ugly)

I bought the Shark hoping to replace my WONDERFUL H20 MOP (which turned out to be not wonderful when it fatally broke down after a mere 6 weeks...)-- and I agree with the reviewer who wondered how anyone could write a positive review about this product-- it is a WASTE OF MONEY if you have ANY serious cleaning to do! (And if your floors do not need serious cleaning, use a paper towel instead- much cheaper). I bought it for linoleum and hardwood.
LINOLEUM & HARDWOOD
THE BAD: First one I bought broke the first day I tried to use it-- like others' experience, the handle snapped right off. VERY FLIMSY! Returned it, got another. Soon discovered:
1- I had to wet the pad before use due to inadequate steam. without pre-wetting, it was like pushing a dry pad across dirt without real effect;
2- Even after pre-wetting, most loose dirt just got pushed around once the FRONT of the pad became dirty (very quickly!)--the rear of the pad picked up almost nothing; (and, by the way, the rear of the pad kept folding under, requiring constant lifts and adjustments which shouldn't be necessary in a quality product...)
3- FORGET about cleaning anything stuck on, including such light-weight jobs as paw prints from kitty. If you have young children, take a pass and run, not walk, from the SHARK- You will be very disappointed;
4- The steam goes on 'holiday' as you're trying to clean...it will decide arbitrarily that you must wait 10 seconds before it 'feels' like working again;
5- The water canister needs constant refilling. It might be of sufficient size if the mop actually worked, but since you must stay in one area of floor seemingly forever, you will be repeatedly forced to refill;
6- Even with perseverance in your attempts to clean your floor, and a willingness to repeatedly refill, your floor will remain filthy. (Better solution than the Shark: tie wet rags to your feet and practice your dance moves.)
THE GOOD- (Maybe not Good, but Better...TILES)
-- If you have arthritis or other ailment making it hard to hold down a lever or cannot handle having to use pressure to push a mop, this has the feature of using a stick to pump steam, and is easy to glide across tiles. I cannot in good conscience recommend this Shark (minnow), but I did clean a friend's tile kitchen floor after they said it was always sticky no matter what they tried, and it seemed to work. Of course, I sprinkled comet liberally and dowsed it generously with water first.
THE UGLY-
-My floors, after using the Minnow to redistribute the dirt.
Hope this helps...
great tool

I just bought this steam mop today and tried it right away. I have read good and bad reviews on all steam mops so I decided to give this one a try. Easy to put together, and worked great on laminate, and tile in my home. I do not have a very dirty house so 2 bathrooms and kitchen were done with one tank of water. I now do not need to worry about my dogs since it uses water and no cleaners. All in all it is a good tool. It is not the cure all for very dirty floors.
