The Raconteurs. Consoler of the Lonely
2008-07-04
Greta cd, with great songs, great musicians, one of the freshest cd's I've heard in a long long time, I definitely think that Jack White III is one of the few geniuses of the actual American music.
The structure of the songs is also very appealing!
A 10!
a sensational straight-ahead killer rock album
2008-06-26
I'm on my 10th-12th listen of this album and it is really one of the best rock albums I've heard this decade. It brings back so much of what was so excellent about late 70's rock (though, it by no means has a 70's feel)...so then what do I mean? I think it is the resulting beauty of the straight-forward but thoughtful lyrics, the tempo changes within songs, the crunchy delicious guitars, and the delight in having two lead singers take on different songs. It is extremely well-produced and an absolute pleasure to listen to. It's never pretentious and seems rahter devoid of ego. I always feel good listening to it and love the "stories". I am so proud of this work and am glad someone finally took this sort of thing on. It will forever remain in my collection and always bring a smile to face. Fantastic.
Just Not That Good

I liked the Raconteurs first album and I find this one to be vastly inferior. The songs to me are just not well written and are not pleasing to listen to. There is something that is "off" to my ears in almost every song. I would recommend not buying this album and simply enjoying their first album, which is great.
Great For Summer
2008-06-20
I was skeptical about this album after being slightly disappointed with their first album. Not that it was terrible, I just didn't think it was as great as what some had raved-- an amateur, first round-effort, if you will, some good songs and some bad.
But I was pleasantly surprised to see this album is solid from beginning to end. The guitars are heavy, which is great, but there are also violins and mandolins and heavy, vintage sounding keyboards(slightly Edgar Winter-styled) littered throughout, giving it that "retro" sound. It's like a strange blend of The White Stripes, The Band and Exile On Main Street-era Rolling Stones. This is fun rocking music you need to have for your summer soundtrack.
Key Tracks:
Title Track:Consoler of The Lonely(Rockin' in and out of different time measures)
Salute Your Solution(Rockin', good keyboard)
Carolina Drama(tells an epic tale in Dylan fashion. Hence the ode to "John Wesley Harding", civil war era cover art.)
Old Enough(Acoustic Guitars and violins)
Rich Kid's Blues(Anthemic, again, great keys)
Consolers Of The Lonely Review
2008-06-18
This album is a lot better than The Raconteurs first album. There are more genres of music blended into The Raconteurs original first album sound. There also are better solos and better songs on this album. If you like The Raconteurs first album, you will abosolutly need to get this one.
Fantastic Album

If you want something a little different this is it. If you like the White Stripes you will love this. I heard it on WFUV in NY which plays lots of great music and purchased it only hearing one song. The whole album is great
Strange Vibe
2008-07-18
The riffs and hooks seem so obvious and derivative. I don't know where I've heard them before (perhaps 40 years of classic rock radio ??) As another reviewer mentioned, there's something "off" here. I realize that reviews are supposed to describe things, but I just can't explain it. I liked the first album. But for some reason I'm just not connecting with the songs on this album. Some of the lyrics are cool, but that alone doesn't make up for lackluster songs. Instead of a full band approach, it seems like a Jack White production all the way. I felt the same way about Loretta Lynn's comeback album a few years ago, which Jack White co-wrote, produced and played on.
fantastic!

I recently heard the Raconteurs on a local radio station and loved 'Consolers of the Lonely'. After learning that Jack White was part of the group my interest was piqued as I think he is an incredibly talented musician/singer/producer. A friend gave me the CD a couple of days ago and I am listening to it as I type. This one has me captivated. The variety and complexity of the music is just what I would expect from any group which Jack White is involved with. This is a must have!
One Of The Better Rock Cd's Of 2008
2008-07-05
I love this cd for only a couple of songs, but these songs got so deep under my skin I cant go a day without listening to them,
Many Shades Of Black-Very atmospheric song the horns add great texture to the song, it's an instant classic. Jack White Is one of the greatest guitarists out right now, and he'll be in the rock hall of fame sooner or later and Brendan's voice flowed very nicely over the music suiting it very well.
You Dont Understand Me-Smooth,relaxing, love the piano!
Five On The Five-It's hard not to love this song it's hyperactive, how
can one person have so much talent Jack White? This guy can wail on the guitar and his pipes fit songs like they were tailored.
Hold Up-A fun party song, sounds like a night out with the boys.
Pull This Blanket Off-Love It!
Buy This CD it's great!
cant stop listening
