AM-FM Radio

Very good product at a reasonable cost. A good radio for the garage or around the yard.
Might as well buy this for backyard

I don't know how to review radios as I live 25 miles frm NYC so everything will work, but we have a mountain in between and somne stations are hard to tune. Anyway, this is fine for listening to Yankees games and tells when the signal is as good as can be. Also durable, can be thrown aroundn and still work.
great radio

Updated Version of ICF-36 Radio
2008-05-18
The ICF-38 radio is identical to the ICF-36, minus the weather and TV bands. Sony obviously created this new model because, as of February 2009, the TV band will no longer be available on analog radio. It's a shame they couldn't have carried over the NOAA weather band, though, which is very useful for weather reports, storm warnings, and other emergencies. Oh well.
The ICF-38 is a decent AM/FM portable radio which is very easy to operate. The controls include an on/off switch, an AM/FM switch, separate tuning and volume wheels, and a tone switch. There is also a fold-up handle and a 24" whip antenna that swivels in all directions. The tone of the radio is good, though somewhat thin, even with the two-position tone switch. The reception of both AM and FM is excellent. Tuning the radio is helped by a small red light that indicates when a station frequency has been precisely located. The ICF-38 can be powered either by a wall outlet or 4 AA batteries. Battery consumption seems to be minimal.
One criticism. In modifying this radio, Sony should have seen to the one consistent complaint that users made about the ICF-36: the head phone output is mono, which means it plays out of only one side. The same is true for this new model.
The Sony ICF-38 is a very good practical radio. It's fairly small and light weight, and the speaker has a respectable tone quality. Of course, you shouldn't expect rumbling bass from so small a unit. Yet, for the price and size, this is an excellent deal.
