Breakthrough Album

I've been a Sonny fan for a long time, but always felt like he was hovering just below the surface of "big time"...he's breached it like a whale with this album.
Real Music!

Wow! If you like really good rock with a heavy blues influence this is definitely worth putting in your collection. Guest artists like Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton , and Vince Gill just add to the gumbo that this Louisiana musician serves up. Good music still lives!

Sonny Landreth is one of the best guitarist / song wrighter of our time. His influences he chose to do duets with are spot on
fresh sounding Landreth with great guests

sonny's playing is always stellar, and this is no exception. the song arrangements are very good, and even though the cd has Ford, Clapton, Ford, Johnson, and others, Sonny by no means take a back seat. I enjoyed this as much as Live from Grant Street...
Unexpected Gem

I've been impressed with Sonny Landreth for some time. He has extraordinary technical skills and demonstrates them with fret work that is incredible. The pleasant surprise here is that he slows the pace a bit and counts on the melody and words of the songs to carry the day. For me, this works perfectly. I continue to hear extraordinary guitar work, but find myself enjoying the songs more. I also like the artists he pairs up with on this CD, especially the Vince Gill cuts.
From the Reach by Sonny Landreth

Singer, songwriter and Louisiana slide guitar phenom Sonny Landreth’s first studio album in five years unites his band with a who’s who of musical guests for a set of all-original roots rock tinged with the blues and New Orleans soul. Featured guitarists and vocalists include Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Vince Gill, Eric Johnson, Robben Ford, Dr. John and Jimmy Buffett.

This is great music for any "Sonny" fan. Although "Congo Square" still remains my favorite song of his - he pulls out the stops on this one - and plays with many of his friends : Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Vince Gill, Eric Johnson, Robben Ford, Dr. John and Jimmy Buffett.
I liked the CD, a lot !! His slide-playing is sheer genius - and he is the master !!
PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS

I HAVE BEEN A SONNY LANDRETH FAN FOR MANY YEARS, AND I HAVE SEEN HIM LIVE MANY TIMES. I BELIEVE THAT THIS CD, "FROM THE REACH," RANKS UP THERE WITH MY FAVORITE CD, "SOUTH OF I-10." AS ALWAYS, THE GUITAR WORK IS MASTERFUL, AND THE SONGS ARE WHAT I WOULD EXPECT FROM SONNY. WHAT I ENJOYED MOST ABOUT THIS CD IS THE COLLABORATIONS BETWEEN SONNY AND OTHER GREAT MUSICIANS SUCH AS ERIC CLAPTON AND ROBBEN FORD(AMONG OTHERS). A GREAT CD FOR LANDRETH FANS AND GUITAR-HEADS ALIKE.
Landreth is Fabulous

I've known about Sonny Landreth since my days as the entertainment editor at the Lafayette, Louisiana newspaper. He was always a great musician, but he has really come into his own here. And the fact that high-profile, high talent musicians respect him enough to play back-up on this album is high praise indeed. Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, Dr. John and Jimmy Buffett are on board but play second fiddle to Landreth. Don't miss this one!
slide-guitar virtuosity.

when you're talking about slide-guitar greats, you have to include sonny landreth.
dwayne allman, george harrison,ry cooder, lowell george, robert johnson and roy rogers are among the best ever and i'm here to say that sonny is at the top of the list.
different styles i know, hard to say who's best?
not for me.
i think i've seen him and the goners live about 40 times or so(i lived in new orleans)and each time he's seems to just get better.
this new one is still growing on me,i'm not sure it's gonna be one of my top favorites yet.
hearing "south of i-10"(his sgt pepper), i thought he could'nt get better, but he is way out front of anyone else.
i've always thought of him this way.
sonny is just plain "outside the box".
i think, the greatest guitarist alive today, maybe of all time.
