Editorial Review
Prepare for full 1080p HDTV. The 40" BRAVIA S Series KDL-40S4100 is an amazing value, and comes fully-loaded with 24p compatibility for smooth playback of filmed content. It also features a wide variety of HD inputs (3 HDMI, 2 component inputs, and a PC input) so you can connect it to a PlayStation 3, Blu-ray Disc player, and up to four more HD-enabled devices. Now you can watch all your favorite movies, sports, and games with the pristine picture and vibrant sound that you expect from a Sony at an unbelievable value.Movies and many prime time TV programs are captured at 24 frames per second (24p). Sony's Blu-ray Disc players wisely take advantage of this by including 24p output capability allowing a compatible connection with BRAVIA HDTVs that have this capability. The benefit - you can watch movies in natural, cinematic motion, the way they are seen at the cinema. Every single frame of the movie can now be seen without using additional video processing that converts film-based images to video reproduction.

Great TV 2008-10-05
I recently downgraded in size (46" to 40") because I found my last tv, Sony as well, was too big for the room. I did upgrade in resolution however (from 720 to 1080p). My previous Sony was (and still is) a great tv but I am absolutely impressed with this tv. I wandered through the store looking at the LG (42"), a Samsung (40") and this Sony. All were 1080p as well. Viewing the images on all three of these screens was pretty similar in my estimation. Although it is hard to tell in the stores for many reasons... length of time the sets are on, are they connected to hd signals, too much lighting, etc. The reason I chose the Sony was mostly due to my satisifaction with my previous tv.

It was easy to set up. My only complaint about set-up is the cable input. It was a terrible choice (flaw) to place it in a spot you can barely manouver around. This took me the longest.

I hooked up my Samsung HD/Blu-ray player and it connected and played flawlessly via hdmi. I threw the disc 'Cars' in (blu-ray) and I was blown away by the picture quality. I put in X-Men: Last Stand (standard dvd) and was equally impressed given it is just a standard dvd. By the way, you will enjoy your movies and tv viewing more in a room with minimal lighting. That's pretty standard with all hd sets.

It does take a bit to start the set up, but it really is worth the wait.

Sound quality is fair for a tv of this kind but I have mine hooked up to a receiver and surround so it's a non-issue for me.

I miss that it doesn't have the two inputs for cable/antenna like my previous Sony. I enjoy some very good reception here and can receive up to 7 local broadcasts in HD including all the major networks. It requires a splitter to do this.

Since it was a Sony TV purchase, the store had a deal on for a Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player for 50% off. I picked it up but plan on selling it.

So even with the downgrade in size, I don't even notice it.

I would highly recommend this tv for anyone looking for a 40" to 42" hd tv in this price range. You won't be disappointed.

The television was packed beautifully. Easy to set up. The picture is beautiful and I am very happy with it. I highly recommend it.Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-40S4100 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

One complain ... 2008-08-30
I purchased this TV and the price was good and the delivery was good too. The picture is clear. One complain I have is that it takes like 20 seconds to view the screen after I press the power button. I don't know if it is because i do not have HD transmission but I doubt it because I have a 32" Sharp Aquos and it takes just five seconds to display something on the screen. I may have to check with the Sony website.
In general i am satisfied but i dont think it should take 20 seconds to display something on the screen.

Good Time Charlie 2008-08-22
Good while it lasted. Purchased the unit new from Amazon and received it on Jun 1, 2008. After almost 3 months of problem free service the unit completely lost the picture. Unit will power on but no picture. After troubleshooting with SONY had the option of exchanging with refurb unit or have local service repair it. Took the path of the local Sony Authorized service thinking this would be the least hassle. A week latter after the service company picked up the unit I still have no status on the repair only it has been assigned to a service tech and if parts are required another 5-8 days.

All this would have to happen during the Olympic! Not too excited about the Sony brand at this time.

Fantastic! 2008-08-18
3 HDMI ports, great PICTURE QUALITY, hooked it up to my computer and it worked brilliantly. Great size, couldn't have asked for more

Reports of the demise of Sony HDTV are highly exaggerated! 2008-07-29

Cableless man meets HD world 2008-07-29
I consider my self pretty low tech and wanted to leave my review for people who may be in the same boat as I am. I wanted a larger TV and I wanted simplicity, quality and not to wonder if it was all a waste.

Well I am super satisified with this TV for the following reasons.

1. Easy to set up. I don't have cable and it just scanned for all the HD and analog stations and that was pretty much about it.
2. Great sound. I don't have a stereo system to hook up to and so it was important that the TV's speakers could, well, speak for themselves. They are very good.
3. Picture is super and seems to adjust itself to suit whatever type of input (HD, Analog, DVD, Video) is coming in. People Don't look short and squat. Everything looks great, and full size and I don't have to do any adjusting when I change a channel.

Note: I will say that using a standard video tape produces an okay picture, but I assume this is the same for every TV. When I play DVD using my computer and connect to TV with HDMI cable, picture is excellent. So just using the antenna cable is not good enough with my current DVD player. I will likely update it or just play it through my computer.

Also, as other reviews say, set up (base mount) was easy. Slide it on base and tighten four screws.

Anyway, I'm sure I'm missing 75% of the features of this baby, but for the "simple cave man HD TV Guy" I am completely satisfied.

Also, TV doesn't make any buzzing or humming noises (hey, that stuff bugs me so I thought I'd add it).

Good luck with your purchase.

David

Yes, yes, yes 2008-07-23
I've been waiting my whole life for this baby! I love it. It's a clean, elegant design which will now become a centerpiece to my livingroom. And I don't even watch TV!

Well Worth The Money - But is it worth the wait for Delivery? 2008-07-17
I am familiar with this TV as I just set one up at a friend's house. Great picture, great quailty overall, and a very nice look.
Multiple inputs making it easy to connect all your gear - a real "Run whatya brung" TV as it has 3 HDMI inputs Multiple PC and Component Inputs and it even supports the old S-Video and RCA connections.
The menus are very basic and it lacks some of the advanced tuning that I am used to on my Sony 60 inch, but the picture quality is excellent and most users will find the menu of options more than sufficient. As someone else said everything is menu driven from the remote, with very few one touch functions.
I purchased this on the Amamzon 36 month Interest Free Deal. Cant beat 33 bucks a month.

Now the BAD - its delivering by CEVA who has no idea where my TV is? The last tracking scan was Newark NJ on Sunday - 22 miles away from my house... well today is Thursday - Hello? Anyone out there? I thought they would call me by now and when I call them - they thought it was picked up already? Picked up? Huh?

Great Price, Great TV but Amazon needs to find a better Delivery service CEVA is horrible. If I had read the message boards about CEVA formelery EAGLE freight I would have never purchased this TV at Amazon. I hope I finally get my TV.

Very pleased. 2008-07-15
This TV was a big upgrade for us. We've never had a flat screen/hi-def TV before. I was rather overwhelmed by all the options out there, and I am by no means an expert on such things. I chose this one based on good reviews and what seemed like a reasonable price. I couldn't be more pleased. This TV looks great, sounds great, and is easy to use.
