computer good so far... Amazon spec is off
2008-10-06
the computer is good so far... the thing is about the Amazon spec
as of Oct 6, 2008, the spec on this page says resolution is:
1440 x 900 pixels
however, the box printing says 1680 x 1050 and the hp.com spec says 1680 x 1050 also.
so that means the font will be smaller... I bought this computer partly based on the fact that IQ804 and IQ816 are both 25 inch screen and is 1920 x 1200. I thought this one is 1440 x 900 and therefore it is more comfortable for it being a touch screen computer. When the resolution is too high, the dot density is too high, making it less comfortable for using the finger to pinpoint something to "click" it.
Turns out that 1920 / 25.5 and 1680 / 22 give about the same dot density, as both are about 75 or 76.
Totally frustrated with this computer
2008-10-06
I've had the computer just a few days and will spend the next few packing it up to return it. At first I blamed the looong response, freezes, and crashes on Vista, but friends using Vista don't seem to experience these.
When minimizing an application, my desktop turns into a bizarre jigsaw puzzle -- one that takes forever to correct itself. Meanwhile, I can't do anything but wait. Even without much software installed, the boot up is slooooow. I often have no control of my cursor and have had to unplug the computer just to unfreeze it. I've spent so much time looking at a totally black screen I think I'm in hell. I'm not a happy camper and haven't even installed all my software.
I intend to exchange it for a Joe 6-pack model; high-tech is slowing me down.
I love this computer

First off nobody could beat amazon's price, and shipment was quick and on time so thanks to amazon.
Now for the computer it's great. I've been using it for a month now and i love it. I find myself not really using the touch screen very much but it works very well and it's a nice feature to have. My 2 1/2 year old likes the touch screen cause we can draw pictures on note pad. Just gotta make sure she ain't got boogers on her fingers. The computer seems to be very fast (compared to my old 512mb ram system). Still getting used to windows vista but no problems so far.
The only thing i was disappointed with was i thought I'd be able to move it around to different rooms of my house but it's rather heavy so it makes it less mobile. Plus all the wires in the back kinda make it difficult too. suppose i could switch to wireless but I'm too cheap.
All in all i love this computer and plan to use it for many years and would recommend it to anyone.
Great Product, but slow service

My wife and bought our HP IQ504 about one month ago, and while we are pleased with the product, we still do not have a functional mouse and keyboard. Our wireless keyboard and mouse were D.O.A., and while the tech support has been very polite, they have not been able to send me a new set. I just recently figured out the problem after hassling the c.s. people everyday. Something about how their system has a malfunction which won't allow them to put an order in for a new keyboard/mouse. This was supposed to be resolved by yesterday, but they've yet to clear up the problem. I'd say we are less than satisfied with HP concerning this issue. It's very frustrating to spend this much on a new system and everything not be in perfect working order. We purchased a usb keyboard, and used our old wireless mouse, so we can actually use the computer.
Aside from that, we really enjoy the product. The included TouchSmart software is easy to use. Icons are large enough, and we'll definitely use it regularly, but I wouldn't consider ditching the mouse completely. Even my 3 1/2 yr old can use the computer with the included Purble Place games, since he hasn't quite mastered the use of a mouse.
The only other nagging issue is that iTunes loads properly only about 30% of the time. I'm guessing this has something to do with the fact that it is a 64-bit O.S, but after working through all suggested fixes, I'm still left with a colorless iTunes screen. We will also want to add some speakers because the built in ones are kind of weak.
If it weren't for our customer support issues, I would give this product 5 stars.
