This was a life saver 2005-10-25
This book helped me see who I am. The way I think, is clearly in this book. I can't remember part of my childhood and I thought I was abnormal. Reading this book, I have come to find out that I am quite normal for a child of an alcoholic. If you are a adult child of an alcoholic, I urge you to read this book and see if it helps you too.

A very good start 2000-12-27
The ideal book if you are beginning your journey of recovery due to alcoholics. It give many answers to initial questions. It does not give any lasting answers to the great mysteries of life but that is not its purpose anyway. So...a good start

shocked 2000-08-15
About ten years ago I was in a book-store in Cambridge, Ma. and happened to browse through that book. Just reading a few questions and answers was one of the greatest shocks in my life. Reading the truth when you always thought that you are so strange, noone else can image, is not easy. I was hardly able to go to the cashier and pay for the book. This was the first day of a new life for me.

If you are an ACoA you probably want to heal yourself by just reading the book. Don't do it. Yes, read the book. But then go out and make contact with other people. Go into therapy. It's never too late.

A good first read for an adult child of an alcoholic! 2000-04-15
I have to agree with the reader from Florida! This book really opened my eyes. The characteristics of an acoa definitely described me! If you have never read a book on this topic, this book will open your eyes. It has a nice question and answer format, and a clear table of contents. However, I found myself saying, "yes, that's me.. and now what do I do"... but it sort of left me hanging there. I would have liked some steps to take to help me improve on some of my unfavorable behaviors.

A great read on the process and stages of recovery 1999-12-14
This was very easy to read, and I really liked the question and answer format. As an Adult Child just starting on the road to recovery, I got the most benefit from the first four chapters. I also liked seeing the stages ahead, especially the common pitfalls, and will definitely refer back to this book as I progress. But I felt this book was more ABOUT recovery, not a guide on HOW to recover. For me, this book helped me understand so many things, but I feel I have to go elsewhere for concrete actions to take. (I'm trying an inner child workbook next.) Definitely a good starting point.

a companion for your healing journey 1999-07-27

A MUST READ!!! I give it 6 stars!!! 1999-05-21
I couldn't put it down. A very easy, and great read. It really opened my eyes and made me understand a lot of the confusing things I was feeling aren't so rare. As I continued to read, things in my life just fell into place. It gave me a new direction and understanding of why things are as they are. I felt a sense of relief as I turned every page. It's a great way to start your road to recovery!! Can I say it again...This is a must read!

This book was great! 1999-05-14
This book was very helpful.I am an adult child and I deal with these issues everyday of my life.Sometimes when things get really bad you feel like nobody else has it as bad as you. This book let's you know that you are not alone, and tells you where to get help. For someone who is struggling to understand this disease and how it effects adult children I would highly suggest that you read this book.

Best when starting out and throughout it all! 1999-01-24
