Sophisticated video on a laptop!
2008-11-18
My wife's laptop (Visat OS) took on a new soul creating videos and a range from small uploads to slick home movies. Our slides, converted video and home movies needed lots of additions to make them archival-great, from adding titles and visual footnotes to arranging in proper order. Here it can be done without fear!
Extremely packed with options and tricks, Corel has blown away this TOASThead with great support and professionalism of product. Produce anything that you can burn to disc. Still playing with it, so no review can cover it all yet, but we are novices at editing and creating DVDs, and videoStudio is the key to learning what works and looking awesome.
Highly recommended for anyone who is concerned about preserving images and movies... perfectly!
Another Great Product by Corel!

This is my second Corel Program, the first one I used was Photo Album 7 and I love it! I figured editing video would probably require more effort than the ease of compiling pictures, but I was surprised to find Corel kept their program intuitive; I only had to refer to the manual a couple of times, and this was my first video editing program.
The installation on Window's XP took about 10 minutes. When it finished installing it was ready to go, no need to reboot. I have lots of paddling videos taken with a digital camera, and some that had already been converted from a digital camcorder. It was easy to select the videos I wanted to work with, but it took a bit to figure out how to sync up the music with the video, and how to omit the sound from the video so that only the music was heard. All in all it took about 45 minutes to compile a great compilation of about 6 videos (trimmed down to just the parts I wanted). The best part was the video conversion afterwards; I converted it direct to MPEG-4 for my iPod Touch. There are other conversions available for the Zune, DVD, PSP, etc. This program is capable of a lot more, but for my simplistic needs it worked great!
If you're unsure which video editing program to purchase I definitely recommend this one!
Viral Videos Here I Come

When you start up VideoStudio pro it presents you with a welcome screen which gives you the choice of choosing either the Movie Wizard, the VidioSutido Editor or the DV-toDVD Wizard. The first choice will let you edit Video you've imported into the program the last choice is pretty obvious and the second choice will walk you though creating your own movie and it'll make it easy.
One of the nice things about this program is the SmartProxy feature which is very handy if you're not working with a high powered machine (or a machine running slower than it should because you're running Vista and not XP, but that's another story). SmartProxy makes a smaller (not HD) file of your video which you work with. When you're finished it'll apply your changes to the original, now that's pretty nifty.
Applying overlays couldn't be easier and trimming clips is pretty darned easy too. There are more presets than you can shake a stick at and I really like the painting creator, though I can't think of many ways I could personally use it. And one of the niftiest features of this nifty program is how easy it makes it to upload your videos to YouTube. Who knows, I could be sending up viral videos in the near future.
4 stars for now -- with more use may get to a 5

All video editing programs with any muscle and flexibility have a learning curve and take time to figure out. That said I am impressed at how fast I've been able to learn Corel Video Studio Pro.
This program installed quickly and easily with no problem on my computer running Vista.
I put in a high definition clip and it had no problem handling the clip 30 minute clip.
The menus are easy to navigate and very intuitive.
I was able to quickly add rolling credits at the end and adjust length and tempo to fit my needs.
Sound editing was simple though does not seem to have as many options as I typically like; however, as I use this program more I may discover the flexibility I am looking for.
Rendering seemed to happen much quicker than with other video programs I have worked with. I was surprised at how quickly my 30 minute video was rendered and burned to disk.
For a video editing program that is feature rich yet at the same time easy to jump into and use this is an excellent choice. I suspect that as I use it more I may be giving up my previous video editing software for Corel Video Studio Pro.
I'm impressed!
Excellent Program!

I tend to approach trying out new software packages along the lines of going on a blind date. You hope for the best, but subconsciously you're looking for some sign of disaster. I'm happy to say, that in the couple of weeks that I've used this software things have gone quite smoothly. There was only one slight hiccup; I initially installed this on my laptop (HP Pavilion dv6700 w/Vista) to experiment with at work during lunch. The WinDVD utility didn't work - it gave some error message and wouldn't play. The VideoStudio package itself worked great - I was really impressed how well it worked given the power of my laptop. The WinDVD software did work when I transferred the software over to my home computer.
I haven't really done much more than scratch the surface of using this software - mostly along the lines of bringing in some video, still images, and adding some music and rendering it out to something that could go on either a PSP or an iPod. Worked great for doing that. Haven't tried putting anything on to a regular DVD yet.
I'm very pleased with this package and how well it works with my computer (and even ran well on my laptop). A few months ago I purchased a similar package for editing video and was really disappointed with it - it just didn't run very well on my system and I ended up uninstalling it.

You can't go wrong with this software! It's has pro features but is so easy to use your grandma could figure it out! What a fun way to make a home movie. Every step is so intuitive! The interface is clean and the controls are right where they should be. Lots of cool features.

I bought a Sanyo HD1010 to take on my vacation, which by the way is a wonderful camcorder...After I took about 30 gigs worth of video, I needed a decent software to make movies. I have downloaded trial versions of Corel Video Studio Pro X2, Sony Vegas, Cyberlink Power Director, and Nero..all in their most recent versions.
I have done a small not very scientific test with a couple of clips.
I took a couple of short clips and simply place them in timeline and make a final video using the highest best quality available of the software.
I compared all of them by viewing in Windows Media Player and Nero viewer.
Corel Video in HD format gives almost 'you're there!' feel. The sound, the details that I don't even remember seeing while I was there, were all captured. I keep looking at the finished video and amazed.
Same clips from Sony and Cyberlink were great but compared to the output Corel produced, they were 'good enough' but not awesome.
Since I'm not an expert in video editing technologies, I have no idea why this is so and this could be subjective. However, I showed the same clips to my husband and my daughter and they both agreed about Corel's final file to be almost life-like.
I think this is the winner for me so far and will buy the full-version soon.
Video Studio Pro & a Video Camera & You're Good to Go

Corel VideoStudio Pro X2 is a user friendly program with a user friendly interface which lets you produce an animated title screen then put a video together by dragging and dropping various audio and video parts onto your montage line. The program comes with a wide range of editing and output choices. I was using Ulead (this is the successor to that) and I liked it just fine. I didn't expect this to be much better, but I always like to upgrade and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised on how easy this program is to use and navigate though. It was easy before, it's easier now.
This really is an all in one video editing program which lets you work in both HD and standard definition movies, DVDs and slide-shows. You can edit your videos without any trouble at all. I know, because if I can do it, anybody can. But if you get in any trouble, there is the handy, dandy Movie Wizard to help you right along. You can paint or draw on your videos if you want, you can burn them onto DVDs and even onto Blu-ray discs, but of course, you'll need a Blu-ray player to do that. You can even watch them on your iPod.
To sum it up you can grab your video form your camcorder or TV, edit wit the help of the Movie Wizard, or not, and then turn it into a movie by adding titles and special effects, even music if you want. And it's not hard to do, it really isn't.
Works Fine for Me

This took a long time to install, but maybe that's because I installed it on an XP virtual machine on my Intel MacBook. I'm doing windows via VM Ware's Fusion, so maybe that's why the installation took so long.
Once the software was installed I wanted to make a movie, well what I really wanted to do was to put a bunch of short videos I'd done with my Panasonic DV camcorder together and burn them to a DVD, then make copies and send them off to a few friends.
The program's interface wasn't a problem for me, because my last computer was a Dell Dimension and I had Corel's Ulead 11.5 on it, so in reality this was an upgrade, but would it work on my virtual machine? Yes, maybe a touch bit slower, but yes. I was able to stitch my videos together and I was impressed with the library of tools, effects and filters and the built in burner did just what I wanted.
I'm betting that if I had a real Windows machine, like I used to have, this program would be much faster, but it's good enough for me for now.
