"I like chocolate too!"
Bianca, 6, Landau Kleffner syndrome (language disorder)

Bianca was a student of mine in and I'd been struggling (and I'm sure she was too) to get her to say more than one syllable at a time - you know how it is - the harder they try, the less that comes out. She had started to consistently string two to three one syllable words together. November came and Food for Thought was ready to be tested out with 'real students' and mine were lucky enough, I guess, to be the guinea pigs.

Bianca was keen to try it, as she liked the computer. She quickly grasped the concept of using the 'choice bar' and made the sentence 'I like chocolate' "Ahh, I like chocolate too!" she replied. It was so clear (for her), I nearly fell off my chair and of course, I was very proud. To top if off, she then made a joke of it all. Laughing all the way, she proceeded to make sentences like 'I like broccoli' and 'I like sandwiches' - both of which are not true of course - and she knew that I knew...!  What a great day that was.
