Very Special Home Pages

Much of my work with children with special needs has been an uplifting experience, not because I succeeded in getting them to behave or learn a task, but because I've gotten to know my students intimately for the people they were - not just for the disability they had.

Very Special Home Pages provides free home pages for children and adults with special needs.  Written in the first person by a carer or parent, they present the likes and dislikes, talents and abilities, favorite things, hobbies and distinct personalities of the person with special needs.  These personal pages allow us to see beyond the disability and appreciate them for who they are - not what their disability is.

Would you like a home page for your person with special needs?  Here's how:

Pages will appear under the banner of Education by Design. Each home page can consist of up to 3 photos and up to 500 words of text.  We'll take care of the technical details and you'll need to do the following.

E-mail us with up to 3 clear photos of the person, in .JPG format. Together with this, you'll need to write a first person account telling us about the person.  See Chloe's page as an example of how we'd like the text to be written.  We think this style gives it a more personal feel.  For privacy, only use their first name and don't mention town names or schools (countries are OK).

We'll keep in touch and when the page is done, we'll send you a special link so that you can preview the page first. Once we get your approval, we'll publish it for all the world to see.

We reserve the right to edit any text that you send us and while all care will be taken when sending photos back, we accept no  responsibility for photos lost or damaged.
