Paint Activities

Paint is probably the most flexible of all art materials.   It goes on virtually any surface and can be applied by almost any instrument. It is an excellent material to experiment with.  It is an intrinsically motivating material to use.  It offers a countless array of results, it's virtually impossible to create the same work twice and there is such agreat array of colour to be used. Paint and paper are relatively cheap to buy and once the brushes and rollers are purchased, they should last for years.

Painting with water-based paint in the class situation has the great advantage of coming off hands, clothes, tables etc easily, but not so with the oil based paints.  Water-based paints are also cheaper for quite large amounts of paint.  Colours to start with are black, white, yellow, orange, green, red, blue and purple.  The bright colours in particular are often popular and it's good to encourage the use of these brighter more stimulating colours.  White is also useful to soften colours and change their tone.  Other base materials include brushes of differing sizes, rollers, paper and containers for paint.

Paint can be applied in a variety of ways, as we have demonstrated in the many activities we have provided here.  Follow the links below.
