Title: Heroes

Flames spurt from the building
People scream as the smoke fills the hall
A lone figure comes up the stairs.

'Any harmed?' He screams.
No one speaks, but he leaves anyway.
He runs up as the others run down.

Dust clogs the vision of the chaplin
As he kneels beside the fallen hero,
Risking his life to save another spirit.
'Prepare your soul,' he mutters.
Then a crash,
Then a bang.
Both bodies end,
Both lives truly begin.

These are heroes,
Right and true.
Not some cartoonist's creation,
Real life
And real lives gone
In a bold and loving sacrifice
For people never known.
God bless America.
