Title: The Legend of the Shadows (part 2)

'Mom, there was a shadow the shape of a person. We ran back here as soon as we saw it,' I tried to make it sound sensible. Mom still looked confused.

'Well, I'm glad you came home. I don't think you need to be going outside anymore.' Mom said.

'Awww! But Mom!' Marty complained. I could tell what Mom was going to say now.

'No buts. I say what goes since I am the only parent here,' Mom said. I mouthed the words as she said them. It was partly true. Dad left a few days after Marty was born. Sadly, he never came back, so Marty doesn't know him that well. He left when I was 6. 5 years don't seem that long, but it does seem lonely and boring without Dad.

Marty started to pout, crossing his arms and sticking out his lower lip. I thought Mom was going to tell him, 'Suck in that lip!', but she didn't. She just went back to chopping the chicken.

Bummer, guess I won't be going outside,I thought. It didn't really bother me. I hadn't any friends ever since we moved here. At school, I only had 1 friend, Jenna, but she didn't live anywhere near my neighborhood.

I sat down at the table, and continued reading my book. Almost every kid in my room called me a Book Worm just because I read a lot. My mom tells me not to worry because it makes me smarter and a better person. Jenna is one of the few people in my class who actually read. At recess, we get together and read the same book. When it's the weekend, we just plan to read the same book at home. Every book that she reads I read. Hopefully we will be friends forever. I don't want to be stuck with no friends.
