Justin,
You bring up some valid points.
We are treating the books as an extension of our website. When you publish your story online, we only take your first name, age and town in order to comply with the COPPA law.
Even though we do not have your full name, the copyright of the story still belongs to you whether it is published online or in a book. Every story we publish in the book will have the firstname, age, town and country of the author, the same as what you see online.
With regards to monetary benefits, we expect to have at least 100 authors per book. We will be publishing the book through a publisher and we expect it to be a relatively small run. Probably about 1000 copies.
Firstly, the funds that we expect to generate from the books will be minimal. Secondly, it will be very difficult to contact everyone and distribute any money (and we would be talking about a few dollars). Lastly, we were planning to use the fund to support the running of the site.
Edbydesign.com is a free web resource for kids to use and the revenue that we generate from ads does not even cover the server cost. We hope that the books may help offset some of our costs and time.
Authors may contact us directly by email if they do not wish to see their stories published in a book.
