Title: Hanukkah

The holiday of “Hanukkah” was begun more than 2000 years ago in Jerusalem. In Jerusalem there was a temple that was called the “the house of God.” Jerusalem was ruled by many Kings and believed in many Gods but they only worshiped one God. Once, Jerusalem was ruled by a cruel Greek King. He put statues in the temple and made the people pray to the statues instead of God. This made the people mad, but the king had more power so he forced the people to pray. If they didn’t, they would be killed and many were killed. Then one day, one of the people knocked a statue down and went to war with the king’s army. The war went on and on. The people were winning! A wise man named Juduilth Macabee led the people to freedom. At last the king gave up. When the people returned to the temple they saw an old ruin. After that it was time to light the “Menorah.” They only found one jar of oil to last for 1 night, but it lasted for 8 nights. It was a miracle! And so that’s why Hanukkah is celebrated all around the world.
