Title: The Secret Passage (The Last Straw Continued)
'Cyndaquil, return!' said Erika, holding out a Poké Ball. Cyndaquil turned and faced Erika. It shook its head. 'What do you mean no?' cried Erika. Cyndaquil lit the flame on its back. 'Get in the ball!' Erika yelled slowly. Cyndaquil shot some flames from its mouth. The flames made a ring of fire around Erika. She was trapped! Cyndaquil ran as fast as it could, away from us forever. Ash walked up to me. 'You know,' he said. 'We should probably put out that fire.' 'Would it be the right thing to do?' I asked. 'No,' answered Silver, 'But we probably still should.' 'Totodile,' Ash and Silver chorused, 'Water Gun!' 'Ash's Totodile put out the fire. Silver's drenched Erika. 'M-m-my P-Pokémon,' Erika stuttered. Tears poured down her cheeks. 'Why did it leave?' 'Because you used it so many times in battle without ever healing at a Pokémon Center, that it figured you didn't care about it, and decided to go find a trainer who treats it better, I'll bet,' I said. 'Yeah,' agreed Misty. 'If I were a Pokémon, I wouldn't want a trainer who cared about the way her Pokémon looked, not how they felt.' 'That's right,' said Ash. 'And a good trainer always cares about the way their Pokémon feel.' 'And they don't go months without taking their Pokémon to a Pokémon Center,' added Brock. Nick stepped in. 'Erika,' he said, 'You have to be the worst trainer on earth. You didn't care about your Pokémon at all. And you used it to hurt other trainers instead of weakening wild Pokémon and catching them.' 'I'm still a good trainer,' Erika muttered. 'Better than all of you put together.' 'I know!' I cried. 'Erika, let's battle to see if you're right! Oh, wait, I forgot. You can't because your Pokémon hated you so much that it ran away, and you're never going to see it again.' Tears streamed down Erika's face. 'I'm telling Grandpa!' she screamed. 'Go ahead,' I said. 'But by the time you tell him, we'll be in a city far away from here, and you'll never be able to find us.' 'Fine,' said Erika. 'I hate you all anyway.' 'Good,' I said. 'We all hate you back.' I turned, gathered all my Pokémon, and walked away. Misty put her Pokémon back in their balls and joined me. Silver. Ash. Brock. Before Nick joined us, he threw Erika a note. He says that it said,
Dear Erika,
There are 3 ways to describe someone like you.
Spoiled. Rotten. Brat.
Your worst enemy,
Nick
I was happy that Nick was on my side now.
