Title: The Tabby

A skinny, mysterious figure slipped silently and carefully along the edge of the icy road, taking great caution to stay amongst the dark shadows, so as not to be found and perhaps captured and taken to a horrible place called an animal shelter, where most of his friends had been taken. Horrible visions flashed through his mind, visions of a loud, shrill siren cutting stealthily through the warm night air; visions of a large emerald green truck with the painted red words 'Animal Homes, Inc.' on it; visions of tiny men with pale faces reaching out from their seats and grabbing him. He shuddered, and sighed. It had happened before to his family, and most of the village where he lived. In fact, he was on his way there, for he had wandered off during a record-breaking snowstorm. His swollen yellow eyes, which glittered like tiny lamps through the creepy shadows, could hardly keep open. Every inch, every mile he crept, staying low, seemed like ten thousand deserts. But he was stubborn, and kept at it. Suddenly, his previous visions came true; the loud siren, the green truck with words on it, the men--it all happened so fast, so quickly. He howled as the taller man reached out, a wicked grin on his bony face, and caught him by his furry orange tail. Without a word spoken between them, the other man tossed him into a dark and scary corner of the truck, where he bumped around the most, and shadows seemed the most scary to him. And the truck drove off, on its evil way to that horrible place called the animal shelter.
