Title: Voldemort Returns! (Part One)
The year when my two younger brothers were first-years at Hogwarts was the most terrifying year of our lives. It all began on that pleasant warm and sunny day in August, three days before September the first, when we were all walking along the dusty, crowded streets of Diagon Alley. I spotted my best friend, Rachel, and waved to her. She waved back.
'See here,' I said, turning to my brothers. 'I'm going to - uh - shop. You two can just go with Mom.' They both nodded and scampered off, racing each other to catch up with my parents. Me and Rachel laughed.
'It's so good to see you again,' I told her, shaking her hand, like the Muggles do.
'You too,' Rachel responded, grinning. 'You haven't been answering my letters, though.'
'What letters? I haven't been getting any letters. Maybe your owl collapsed.'
'No, because she came back yesterday empty-handed. Or should I say empty-clawed?' She chuckled to herself at her own joke.
'This is weird,' I continued. 'I know my parents are Muggles, but they're not that mean.'
'Come on, Jennifer. Who knows what tricks could be up their sleeves?'
I snorted. 'Yeah, right. They're nothing at hiding stuff compared to wizards.'
'And witches.'
'Of course.'
We were silent for a few minutes as we emptied our Gringotts vaults. I was alarmed when I saw how empty my friends' was.
'Speaking of hiding...' Rachel's face darkened. 'I wonder where Voldemort is.'
I clapped my hands over my ears and moaned. 'You-Know-Who! He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named! I don't care, just not V - V -' I buried my face in my hands.
'Jennifer!' Rachel sounded deeply annoyed. 'I'm with Potter. Vol - oh, all right, You-Know-Who, is gone. Why can't we say his name?'
I changed the subject. 'What time is it?'
'Jennifer, I want to talk about Voldemort. Where do you think he's hiding?'
I shrugged. 'I dunno. In Africa?'
We were soon to find out.
