Title: The Secret

Katie looked over at her best friend, Stacey. She had a really sad look on her face. Katie had tried everything. She tried to figure out what was wrong, but Stacey kept saying,'Nothing, I'm fine.'
Katie tried to ask her if she wanted to go to the ice cream parlor so they could buy ice cream, but Stacey still refused to do anything. The whole walk back to Stacey's house, they said nothing at all to each other. Finally, they arrived at her house.
'Bye, Stacey. See you tomorrow maybe?' Stacey just nodded, and walked inside her house. Katie walked the whole two blocks, pondering about her best friend. When Katie walked inside, her mom was cooking fried chicken.
'Wash your hands, Katie. Dinner will be ready soon.' her mom told her. Katie nodded, and walked into the bathroom. While she was washing her hands, she looked into the mirror. What she saw in the mirror scared Katie. She could of sworn that she saw the exact image of Stacey. Katie blinked, and when she looked again, she saw her own image.
I must be seeing things, Katie thought. She dried her hands quickly, and ran down the stairs. Katie was scared, but she didn't know why she should be. She just thought she saw Stacey in the mirror. She sat down at the table next to her little brother, Marc. He stuck his tongue out at her, and she stuck hers back out at him. Her dad sat next to Marc, and her mom would sit next to Katie and dad. It was the usual seating for dinner time this year. Every year, they had different seatings for breakfast, lunch, supper, and dinner. Katie always liked this, except when she was stuck by Marc. Mom brought the fried chicken to the table. Then she brought big bowls and plates of rice, green peas, beans, broccoli, and mashed potatoes. They said grace, and then dug down into their food. Katie had the sudden urge to look into the bathroom mirror again.
'May I be excused?' she asked. Her dad nodded, and motioned her to go. Katie got up, and ran up the stairs. She didn't know why she was doing this if she was afraid, but she was curious to see if she was really seeing things or not. When she looked into the mirror, she saw something that brought fear to her soul and goosebumps to her skin. Katie screamed loudly, and ran out of the bathroom and back to the dining room.
'What happened?' her parents asked. Katie said that nothing happened, even though she saw something that would give her nightmares for the rest of the week.
