Title: Upside-down (part 3)
“Yes, I am a ghost,” Allison said, as they turned around to go back home. “I died when I was 12. I cursed myself. I loved mental powers so much that I trained myself to become a witch. I also loved music, but I had to pick one over the other to be my life decision. One day I was in the park practicing my powers. I thought no one was watching. Turns out someone was watching, a witch hunter. He came out from behind the bushes and hypnotized me or something. I can’t remember much after that. I remember waking up in the back of his truck, then falling asleep again, only to wake up in my own bed and having no one able to see me. I decided I must be dead. I had a living soul but no body. I’m a ghost. I come back to this house when I hear good music and also because I’ve got nowhere else to go. I think there’s a reason for me to come here, but I don’t know what.”
“Why aren’t you in heaven? How come I can see you?” Tonya asked as she and Allison landed in ‘their’ room. Tonya shut her window and sat on her bed. Allison joined her.
“I think I need your help,” said Allison.
“Guess that works for me.”
Suddenly, “Tonya, we’re home!”
“My parents are home! Quick, Allison, hide!” Tonya said zooming around her room looking for a place for Allison to hide.
“I’m a ghost, remember?” Allison said in the tone of voice that usually had a “duh” at the end of whatever had been said.
“Oh, ya,” Tonya said reluctantly, “I kind of forgot. I’m going downstairs for dessert. You can come if you want.”
“Two things. One -- your parents would start to wonder what was going on if they saw a floating spoon. Two -- I’m a ghost. I don’t eat.” Allison said in that nasty tone of voice again. Then she said, “But still I’ll come.”
“Don’t tell anyone about me…not that they’d believe you. Oh, and if you’re caught talking to me, I’m your imaginary friend.”
“Isn’t that babyish?” Tonya asked as they turned the corner.
“Who are you talking to, Tonya?” Her mom asked, as Tonya pulled out a chair for Allison and then one for herself.
“Oh, no one.” Tonya said, looking around as if the answer was floating in the air.
“I could have sworn you were talking to someone, even though it looked like you were talking to the wall.” Her mom said scooping the ice cream for Tonya.
Over her mom’s head Tonya saw Allison floating around. Allison started making faces and Tonya giggled.
