Title: Upside-down (part 5)
As Allison chased after her, Tonya ran into her parents office and sat down at the computer. Allison watched in amazement as Tonya’s mouse moved an arrow across the screen. Tonya clicked on things and the screen changed.
“We’re on the Internet.” Tonya said as she keyed in her code.
“The Inter what?” Allison asked, staring at the screen in puzzlement.
“The Internet. You know, the…” Tonya stopped, she realized that Allison was completely dumbfounded. “This is the Internet. The Internet is a place online or on your computer, which is this box in front of us, that gives you facts on whatever you want. I’ll show you.” Tonya typed in the word ‘ghosts’ at the top of the screen. Before she could get any further a voice interrupted her.
“You’ve got mail!”
“All right! E-mail!” Tonya said clicking on her mailbox.
“E-mail?” Allison asked.
“It stands for electronic mail. Comes across the wires, like lights and phone calls.” Tonya said flatly as she read one of her letters.
“Oh.” Allison said.
“Yeah. Aha.” Tonya said reading her next letter.
Allison had watched Tonya enough to notice how the Internet worked. She learned and reacted fast in all situations. She reached for the mouse and moved it to get Tonya’s attention. Then she clicked the little ‘x’ on the top right-hand corner of Tonya’s mail.
“Hey! I wasn’t done!” Tonya said reaching for the mouse. Allison moved, and Tonya went sprawling to the floor. That gave Allison some time. She clicked on the word ‘ghosts’ that Tonya had typed for her and the screen changed. Tonya sat back in her seat.
“Cool! A ghost website!” Tonya said, letting Allison scroll down with the mouse.
“Website?” Allison asked. “Never mind, I don’t kneed to know.” Allison clicked on some links and suddenly was satisfied. “Yes! Give me a piece of paper or something. I have to copy this information!”
“Or,” Tonya said reaching over to get the mouse. “You could just hit ‘print’.” Tonya clicked on the print button and the webpage printed. Allison gasped as the page come out of the printer. “It’s only paper with words written on it.” Tonya said looking at Allison in disbelief.
“Oh, it’s not that.” Allison said staring at the screen.
“Then what is it?”
