Title: Shut Your Eyes: It Won't Go Away
I often shut my eyes,
Trying to shut out the pain,
But no matter how many tries,
Shutting out gives me no gain,
I ignore all the world’s hurts,
But feel the guilt of this luxury,
Realization comes in spurts,
Giving into admittance is beyond me,
But I need to learn to admit,
That we have many problems,
And they won’t be solved if we sit,
We’ll just come up with negative sums,
As a whole it’s overwhelming,
All the pieces put together,
The direness of this is ringing,
As loudly and pronounced as ever,
The secret to our problems,
Is to take them one at a time,
Until a solution comes,
Until the world’s in perfect rhyme,
Tackling problems one by one,
Is the simplest solution,
With out problems on the run,
We can finally live as one,
One as a family,
Of God’s sons and daughters,
It can start with you and me,
One family across the waters,
We will always have our differences,
And be a unique and diverse people,
But it doesn’t really make sense,
Why our prejudice cup is full,
That is just one more obstacle,
Created to make us stronger,
There is an insistent pull,
That will make this problem longer,
But eventually we will overcome,
All of our problems of different sorts,
We are close to solving some,
If we stop making ignorant retorts,
But only the future will tell,
Whether things will improve,
This is just a dreadful spell,
But to me this still needs to be proved,
I beg and pray that we will stop,
Being so ignorant and hateful,
Let your resentment drop,
The rest of us would be so grateful,
