Title: I Need You

I Need You"

"I Need You," the words pounded
Inside my head. Like the sound of
Marching feet, they traipse through my mind.
I try to drown their sound out,
Try to erase the pictures from my mind.
The pictures of you and me.
The picture of the funeral.

Of everyone in black, looking like
Death themselves. Of the lone raven
In the tree above your grave,
Calling out its cry.

"I Need You," the lost words from your
Lips. "I Hate You," the words from mine
As I stormed away from you. Away from
Us and our problems.

"I Need You," spoken minutes before you
Killed yourself. Minutes that seemed like
Hours, days, months, years. Then stood still
As you whispered "I Need You" for the last time

I watch the casket lowered into the cold earth.
Your cold body in it. I toss a black rose onto the
Disappearing box. This time it is I who whispers
"I Need You."

"I Need You," before leaving without you.
