Title: What's in a Name?
Anna. Uck. What kind of name is Anna? It’s so plain sounding. I hate it. Unfortunately it’s also my name. Yes, my name is Anna. Anna Harrison if you want to get formal. Why do I hate the name Anna? Well, it’s a long story, Ok maybe a short story. Whatever. You want to hear it? Here goes:
Yesterday morning at nine, nine o’clock am if you want to get specific, A little blonde girl with pigtails walks in my classrom. I thought she must have a pretty plain name because she looks like a pretty plain person. How wrong was I! Her name was Gardenia Leia Autumn Riscotti. Quite a mouthful if you ask me. I mean I should of been named that! Not that I like the name Gardenia, but I mean I’ve got wavy black hair with purple streaks! Not that looks mater but all my friends call me a dare devil(which I am) and Gardenia takes no risks whatsoever. So it got me thinking that maybe I should change my name. I mean, I can’t be Anna forever! It’s such a common plain name! It got me thinking that I have to do something!
So that’s my story. Now I’m sitting at my desk with a pen, paper and a baby names book(those books always have the weirdest names!). I’ve written down Xena, Athena,Demetra, Alessandria and Quinn. My favourite is probably Athena or Demetra(hey, I’ve always loved Greek mythology). Now the only problem is to choose between the two and talk my mom into letting me legally change my name. The phone rings. I answer it. Its my friend Lee, like she’ll be any help she likes the name Anna. “Hey Anna! Go on your computer and go to www.seeingstars.com!” She sounds very excited.
“Geez Lee, why?”
“You’ll see! Bye” She hangs up. I go to my computer. Oh what the heck. www.seeingstars.com. The page opens up. I read the top of the page. It says “Singing sensation Anna Blake is declared the years best female singer!” Oh Lee! Why does she think that some singer with the same name as me winning some award will make me like my name? Heck, I’m an individaul. I don’t want to share my name with billions of people! Then again Gardenia probably shares her name with billions of people also. Maybe I can think of a nickname. Maybe Anna isn’t so bad after all.
