Title: One Last Hope-Riquaela, Chapter 2
Riquaela stumbled as he backed away. 'Watch where you're going,' she snapped.
'Hey, take it easy.' She gave a start of recognition when he spoke, and narrowed her eyes.
'You're David, aren't you,' she asked, stiffening. 'David Morris, star of Gkenoak football team.'
Her sarcasm was obvious, but he didn't notice it. 'Yeah, that's me.'
He looked at her in a way that made her spine tingle.
'What?' she demanded sarcastically. 'You know, there ARE girls in this world that aren't dying to get a glimpse of you.
'Of course, it's all very nice for you,' she continued. 'You live in a mansion in Briarmoor, you're the star of Glenoak football team, you get anything you want, and the most popular guy in high school, too. You have a perfect life.'
Her hot anger turned to tears that slipped down her cheeks. 'Your sister didn't die of cancer! You've never experienced a crisis! And do you even know what it means to not have enough money for something?' She turned away and wiped furiously at her eyes.
He put his hand awkwardly on her shoulder, and she cringed. 'It's not true.'
'What?' This was so different from the arrogant, conceited boy she had known about.
'My life isn't perfect.'
'Oh, did your girlfriend turn you down?'
'No.' His voice was bitter. 'My brother Jason-in college, you know?- was in a car wreck two days ago. And now he's blind and he'll never walk again. Is that perfect to you?'
