Title: the magic mirror part I
“YOU LOSE!” Lalit shouted. They had just played a game of ludo and neha had lost badly. She frowned at lalit and he made a face at her. She broke into tears almost immediately. “ You cheated! Ma! Look, lalit cheated in the game. I would have won if he hadn’t cheated.” Mother came running and picked up neha from the floor where she lay face down, banging her fists on the floor. “ Yes darling you won. Lalit is a bad boy. Don’t pay attention to him.” She scolded lalit for cheating and started wiping neha’s tear stained face. “Don’t cry baby. We’ll get you that pretty pink frock you wanted so much. Wont that cheer you up?” neha stopped crying and smiled a very charming smile.
Neha was a very pretty child. She was a rosy little thing with pink lips and cheeks and a dimpled smile. She knew she was pretty and was proud of the fact. She never missed a chance to show off her beauty even at the age of six! She loved buying pretty frocks and shoes to wear and look pretty. Her closet was filled with thousands of frocks and skirts and blouses. Her parents, Mr. And Mrs. Bose, were proud of their pretty child and always gave her anything she wanted. So naturally, she was very spoilt. Her brother lalit was only 3 years older to her but he was very matured. He was not at all spoilt and obeyed and respected elders. Though he loved neha very much, he disliked her habit of crying at little things. This habit of neha’s often made him get scolded by their parents. He kept thinking of ways to improve neha’s behavior but never found a solution.
Lalit was picking up the ludo set when his mother came back. “ lalit, I am very angry at you for making neha cry. Poor girl1 she is so unhappy. Cant you lose just to keep her happy? After all you are the elder one. As a punishment no party for you tonight. You can stay at home.” His mother walked off. Lalit could not believe it. He was going to miss the biggest party of the year at nitin’s house. This was getting out of hand. He had to do something. Controlling the tears in his eyes (as boys never cried), he went and locked himself in his room. He thought and thought and thought but of no avail. Slowly he fell of to sleep.
